W266EB Centreville files to move to...

Last edited:
W236DX is now on 95.1 FM. I listened to the translator on my car stereo driving from south Calera to the Shelby County airport exit tonight. The signal was solid other than some occasional slight scratching from time to time.

Listened again today. Signal still sounds good but the farther you get into downtown Calera area and east, the signal degrades more. Still listenable however at least with a car stereo. I am hearing W236DX here at home in south Calera using a clock radio with a good signal as well.

I was amazed, too, at how quickly the FCC approved this app within a week's time. :O

TOH station ID also mentions the new call sign of W236DX.

I was surprised to see that Crawford quickly submitted a letter complaining of interference from the short-lived 101.1 move, so I bet that was the impetus to scrap the 100.9 move. One click over would not save them from interference complaints since it would affect WXJC's HD sideband, I bet. But I imagine it worked out better for this translator, looks like 95.1 is not going to be quite as interference prone.

I noticed the signal from W266EB mysteriously disappeared from 101.1 FM around a week ago (this occurred before the app was filed to move to 95.1). Given that letter of complaint, it now makes sense as to why.

I've been known to hear 101.1 FM, from a parking lot in Alabaster. I've also been known to hear them some, in the Calera and Montevallo area too. That's when a weak sounding WALX from Selma, starts to kick in some.

P.S. I believe they did the right thing by moving to 95.1 FM myself. It'll serve them better anyway. ;)

Yeah in my experience years ago 101.1 was good to about the I-65/US-31 exit in Alabaster then it quickly started going downhill as you headed south towards Calera. I imagine it's one of the biggest signals in the state along with WZHT 105.7 out of Troy. Nothing will ever beat the old 102.5 off the Tuscaloosa tall tower (which I heard clearly at least as far south as Greenville a few times) but those days of big signals and big coverage areas seem to be disappearing.

That's true about WZHT. When I was growing up and living on Shades Mtn, I could receive a really good signal from then-WRJM just using a plastic FM dipole antenna.
