W279AJ Question

This transmitter along with W244AS in Oakhurst, NJ was simulcasting WQXR when they were on 96.3. Now with the frequency swap, WCAA is on the Oakhurst transmitter. Anyone in the area can confirm if WQXR is still simulcasting on 103.7, or is 103.7 simulcasting WCAA instead?

Yes W279AJ 103.7 Highland - Poughkeepsie switched on October 8 to the new WQXR 105.9. It sounds ok but even directly across the Hudson River from their Highland Antenna there is some background interference like that of a weak incoming signal . Perhaps Walker Broadcasting could process the signal with a little more boost or filters to clear this up . 105.9 is extremely weak in Poughkeepsie , not really listenable , but on my car radio the interference /poor signal noise is the same pattern as on 103.7

I agree. its tough. Southern Dutchess/Northern Orange doesn't really get either. 105.9 is overrun by the CT station and 103.7 is overrun by WNNJ.

Thank you. For some odd reason W244AS didn't kick in to WQXR and still simulcasting WCAA till this minute :/

This is just a guess ,but perhaps the new owners of WQXR , WNYC has not yet been able to reach a carriage agreement with the operator of the translator . Or perhaps since someone has to physically go to the translator site to make the switch over maybe the operator hasn’t gotten to it yet?
That would explain why their Receiver is still set at 96.3

105.9 is nothing in most of Northern Orange. There is much better chance of getting the Hartford station than the NYC station on it. 103.7 is the same in Orange. Too much interference from WNNJ and the Northeast public radio translator on 103.9 from Beacon.

Would be nice if classic the music translator was used on 93.7 in Newburgh-Beacon. That would cover a good chuck of Eastern Orange, Northern Putnam, Southern Dutchess.

The religion junk on it is completely garbage. Who actually listens to it anyway????
