W280DW to go omni-directional

At least, a CP to do so.
Just letting out their null toward Tampa to the south.
Antenna will remain at nearly the same height.

According to the only map (the new contour map) on the FCC website and comparing the two maps on Radio-locator, it looks as though as improvement to the south will be minimal.

What puzzles me is that with the religious translator, in Ruskin, seemingly evaporating into thin air, (no longer listed in the FCC FM query site and no longer showing on Radio-locator).......... I am wondering why WUSF HD2 is lowering the antenna by approximately 4 meters? I think I know why USF can't or won't raise the antenna height, but lowering it seems counter-productive.

It's WUSF FM's translator.
For WUSF-HD2 and WSMR.

I would guess that they have purchased a new omni-directional antenna with more bays (elements) which allow the use of less transmitter power for the same ERP, but with the top bay at the same height as the old top bay, the center of radiation will be somewhat lower. In this early configuration, the center of radiation was only about half the tower height. Of course, NINE-FM also had other issues.

Why does 105.9 seem stronger in Tampa than 103.9?
There are three reasons that I can think of that WFLA's translator is going to have a stronger signal in most parts of Tampa proper than WSMR's translator.

1) 105.9's antenna is located in a more central location
2.) slighter higher antenna height
3) omni-directional

Now people living in the area bounded by Fowler Ave to the south, to just north of Bearss on the north and between I-275 and I-75 would probably correctly point out that in their area 103.9 has a stronger signal of the two.

There are others on this board that can give a much better explanation and probably will.... but for now, hopefully that will answer your question.

They are way south, but will not cover the USF campus well..

I have not found a signal problem with 105.9 at Haley's. In fact, I am quite pleased with the coverage of the translator. My only criticism is that the complaints to the North of the Market for the 970 signal and the translator does not address that issue.
