W28AJ West Haven

I've asked similar questions over the years with no response myself. For example, who even watches this station and why? It's not carried on any cable system, and it's coverage zone includes a few neighborhoods in West Haven and New Haven. Do people there still pull out rabbit ears or have rooftop antennae? I mean, it's the only way you're going to see this station. Not to mention, it's signal is so shabby you practically have to be able to see the tower from your home to pick it up. And why is this station even in existence? Who bothers to run such an operation, and are they even making any money? The New Haven Register publishes the station's schedule (listed by their nickname "WNHW"), and from what I see, I'd rather watch the "i" network or Lifetime or S@H for that matter, or put a pillow over my head and smother myself. A funny story about the station. Years back, we went down to the shore to visit the Milford Jai-Alai which was a big deal at the time (I think they've since knocked it down?). Anyhow, we were heading down the Post Road and had to make a quick turnaround. The traffic was so bad that we had turn around on one of the side streets. And low and behold, we came upon an old cinderblock building with a faded sign on the front that said W28AJ! It was very random, but ever since, I've constantly wondered about that station. How do they make any money to stay on the air? Is it more profitable staying status quo than actually boosting their signal, trying to pick up local cable carriage, and/or improving their programming?

Speaking of low-power Connecticut TV stations, didn't channel 13 Hartford (WRDM-LP) recently move to Avon Mountain and channel 50?

WRDM-LP did move to channel 50, but over on the WCCC-FM tower.

WCCC's tower is on AVON Mountain. As for WRDM's new Signal, I'm impressed with how strong it is. I was able to pick it up with just a wire screwed onto the cable jack where my dad used to live on the Southington-Plainville line. The link below show's a map of where he used to live:

As for W28AJ, my homeboy just bought his own car and if I can find a portable TV we'll go down to West Haven/New Haven in a few weeks to do a signal test. I know I've never picked them up when I lived in Bristol and Southington. The only 28 I've ever gotten was UPN 28 from Providence.

LOL oops, i gues it is on Avon Mountain, thanks for the Correction Marc. It's been YEARS since I was in that neck of the woods so I kinda forgot.

More specifically, the WCCC-FM transmitter is along US Route 44 by the Avon/West Hartford town line. The other Avon Mountain area transmitters are a bit south of theirs. As for channel 50 (WRDM-LP), I get almost no signal of it here in New Britain's south end. To be fair, Avon Mountain is a poor signal spot for me. I can never get a clean signal of channels 18 or 24 and VHF 3 is decent to good. WFSB-DT channel 33 is also a struggle, believe it or not (even with its 1 million watt signal).

I get ch 50 fairly well here in Middletown, I also get sister station ch 48 (I barely get 47), but then again I get a fair to decent signal on WHCT 38 Hartford too.

When I was in Cromwell fairly recently, I was able to get a near snow-free picture of Channel 38 with just a set of amplified rabbit ears.
