Rumor has it that that station is just being tested on the translator...it may move to one of Cox Jacksonville's more powerful signals. They are just seeing how the the people like it in the Jacksonville area. turns out there are hip hop fans in St Johns and SE Georgia but they can not hear the station. The have been on their FB page begging for more power so they could listen to it in their towns.

Can I point you all to a domain that has been registered through the same company that does all of Cox's domain request? I am sure you are saying yes.

Power1045.com

It was registered just over a month ago so I get the feeling if they keep getting new fans and listeners we will say goodbye to WFYV (Rock 104.5 | RIP Rock 105) once and for all this year.

Yes I had to throw in Rock 105 in because I still call it that after all these years.

Now let the guessing game begin!

Proof? My searches yield a different company out of Arizona where other Jax stations are coming up with an in house person in ATL.

Sure..

Here is the Power 106.1 registered through GoDaddy....all things on domain servers do point to Cox operations out of Atlanta...but that is servers

http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=power1061.com

Here is the one for Power1045.com

http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=power1045.com

Look at the registrant....same company...bought both domains from GoDaddy.....see the connections now....my mind is Cox is going to move Power to a bigger stick if it keeps gaining traction...the station that qualifies to be replaced is no other than Rock 104.5.

Was just pointing that out compared to what the other domains are registered to as ThatGuyOnTheRadio pointed out and I looked into it deeper to see what he was saying. However, I just get this feeling Rock 104.5 is not going to be here much longer and Power is going to move down the dial. Look at the Holiday Arbitron's....near a 2 share for Rock 104.5? I am sure Cox is not happy about that.

Well after that weird DOVE stunt you never know! Cox would kill 93.3 if they pogram it right.

So, Power would move to 104.5, soft A.C. could end up on 106.1 & 104.5 could end up in the ash heap of history? Works for me!

so any idea on when the switch will happen? i think they should move it to 969 and call it power 97

Not sure if and when, but I think if Rock 104.5 has one more bad book, that station will be toast...and Eagle is in the Top 5 in Jacksonville so they are not going to play switch-a-roo with the Eagle just to put Power at 96.9.

ive noticed rock 1045 trying new things but there still playing the same crap over and over there starting to play more classic rock lately theres enough classic crap in jacksonville already time for a change

so 1029 is playing more active rock like alice in chains metallics etc. taking over as jacksonvilles rock station i give 1045 maybe a week. anyone know of a good ratings site?

I figured they'd flip after the concert, but I never dreamed that it would be literally after the last song of the concert.

:-\ :-[

it would be sick as hell if 104.5 went to evolution there popping up in boston miami and there amazing dance will be taking over soon

Dont know the markit so can't say if a format like that would work.
JohnJax who i feel is insiteful might be able to provide gidence on this .

Remember, Power 106.1 is Cox Radio's first urban station in the Jacksonville market. We will see if the station is competitive with 93.3 The Beat, despite the fact The Beat is a powerful Class C1 but Power is on a Class D translator relaying WJGL 96.9 HD2. If it is successful and Rock 104.5 continues to struggle in the ratings, Power 106.1 will probably move to the Class C 104.5 FM, which would make them competitive signal-wise to Clear Channel's 93.3 The Beat. Another way in which 106.1 FM can take away some of the The Beat's audience is by adding a new hip-hop based morning show, The Rickey Smiley Show, which will steal away some listeners who are tired of listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show, a show that should be on an Urban AC station like 93.3 The Beat sister station V101.5 rather than a Hip Hop station like The Beat or Power 106.1.

On July 25, 2013, the nationally syndicated "Ricky Smiley Morning Show" debuted on "Power 106.1" in Jacksonville, FL, giving hip-hop fans in Jacksonville a TRUE hip-hop formatted morning show as an alternative to the nationally syndicated "Steve Harvey Morning Show", which was designed for an older, Urban AC audience than a younger Mainstream Urban audience.

Cox Radio has done quite well with that low power translator which proves that even in a Top 50 market, a translator can beat a 100kw C1. I've even seen in a very few rare occasions where a very weak rim-shot had higher ratings than a local station in the same service - FM / FM. Content and personality makes a huge positive difference. Give the market what it wants and make it interesting and fun.

Finally, but it was a no brainer! Now it's interesting to see how long Tom Joyner will be on Clear Channel's V101.5 as ALL Cox Urban AC stations run his show. I wonder how long he has in his contract over there?
