Yes that is me. The guy before me was here for 20 years! He did great work. Thank you again.
 
I'm going to make a point that may irritate some people...but...does imaging really drive listeners to or away from a station? I doubt it. FNX (I heard) at one point paid their imaging guy more than anyone else on staff, which is a terrible idea.
 
Absolutely plays a vital role in the success or failure of a station. It's how you project your brand and let the audience know what to expect from your product. Ask Apple, Howard Stern, Coke, Ryan Seacrest or McDonalds how important imaging/branding is to their success.
 
Sticking with WAAF, I noticed the imaging as a teenager long before I had even a slight interest in radio. The imaging was a huge part of the "attitude" of the station. It was tight, fast, snarky, funny, edgy. The imaging possessed a lot of the qualities that the personalities and the music possessed. It tied it all together. Looking back, that was a part of why I listened to WAAF for hours on end, even when I could get WBCN and WCCC just as well. WAAF was a total package, and imaging was a vital component.

Seacrest and Stern would do fine with or without imaging...it's the content that delivers. Branding for companies is different. I'm making the point that the average listener doesn't care about the imaging of a station...or to the point that they tune in or out to a station.

and to further clarify my point...Mike fm used to use the J Peterman (from Seinfeld) guy as their imaging voice, and I can say with near certainty, that no average listener tuned in because of this...it's based on content.

It's all done at a subconscious level. You don't tune in because of imaging elements, you're more likely to keep tuning in because of them. Imaging complements content.
