WAAF reception in CT

I am very suprised no one has brought this one up...
As all of you know AAF is now simulcasted on 97.7 . I was curious does anyone know if AAF is still using the paxton tower. I think it would be a good Idea to have that one permantly used now because of the 97.7 simulcast.
has the reception been still reaching the Connecticut River/Hartford? I have been stuck in fairfield county so I coulsn't tell you

also now with AAF simucast in boston can they try convince the FCC to move 107.3 AAF signal tward springfield MA at all to get better reception in CT. (IE moving 1073's tower to like the top of wachussets or just a litter further East of Wooster MA (spelling) etc...

Isn't WCTY-FM 97.7 a country station in Norwich? As for 107.3 FM, I get no signal here in New Britain at the present time.
 
WAAF spent years trying to become a Boston station... why would they want to move BACK towards Worcester? (or Springfield?) There is really no point in them trying to be a Connecticut station as well.
 
I've been getting AAF clearer and clearer on 107.3 maybe a change in the seasons or something? I've also been getting a Country station out of AC in the New Haven area on that frequency... meaning I had to move my XM elsewhere.
 
WAAF-FM is presently licensed to Wetborough, MA. I had completely forgotten that the 97.7 FM Jamie spoke of is the station licensed to Brockton and has their transmitter on Blue Hill in Canton, MA. Again, here in greater Hartford, some of us receive WCTY-FM 97.7, a country station licensed to Norwich.
 
So, just because WAAF 107.3 has a simulcast in Boston.... we can ignore spacing requiresments and the table of alottments, just to move a station clsoer so a few listeners can hear it better?
 
WAAF used to be loud and clear all the way down 395 in New London County, CT. It's barely decipherable on the car radio in SE CT now. Even up around Danielson, CT, it's a shadow of its former self. 96.1 WSRS, 104.5 WXLO out of Fitchburg and Class A 100.1 The Pike all have better signals in much of eastern CT. The old WAAF's signal was impressive in CT and Springfield, but that's clearly not their market. Boston's where the big bucks are.
 
We recently took a drive down 395 from Worcester to Clinton CT and were surprised how quickly the signal degenerated. In the past, it was reasonably strong along the Conn shore but now it was petering out near Norwich. Then we drove north on the way to Vermont. We used to get AAF very well near Granby CT and Southwick MA
and this time, nothing listenable, just garble. Since many people in eastern Mass have been known to travel to Conn, the Berkshires, SE Conn, Vermont, New Hamp. etc, all AAF has done is to alienate some of audience they are trying to target (as well a a large audience in Conn that were loyal listeners).
 
I bet they wish they had the old coverage along with 97.7 FM now!
 
THAT would make too much sense; plus someone would have to admit to a huge mistake. AAF before the move from Paxton was like a large shark in an ocean of fish. Their "strategy" to better cover Boston has put AAF in a sea of other large sharks and it remains to be seen whether they will end up "predator" or "prey." Pray that these come to their senses before some someone stuffs a 107.5 or 107.1 around the Holyoke-Northampton area, spmething that someone is probably working on at this time.
 
Have you noticed a change at all.
my theory is I think it might have something to do with the terrain. it might be that the angle of the signal is still able to get over the ct river valley foothills wheras it cannot get in the ct river valley anymore and just over it.
can anyone give me any info on my theory? ( 40 degree angle differential?)

Maybe their height above avarage terrain is lower now? It's a possibility. Again, I get no signal of theirs now here in New Britain, CT.
 
Does anybody have any clue why they don't now? hell... any Idea why with 97.7 that they not try to go further west than paxton? I bet its because they have spent too much money as it is just my thought...

I think they blow now........

They used to be an excellent alternative rock station.....They play much more older rock now......I havent listenend to them in months....

Ah well
 
Its too bad we don't get TOS here in CT at least I made sure I had a room facing east so I can now get that station. wahoo!

There's no reason for WAAF to move further west. They're not selling Springfield or anywhere in Connecticut. Any ratings they pick up outside of Boston or Worcester are gravy.

You will NEVER see AM or FM transmitters at the summit of Wachusett Mountain. The Mass. DCR will never allow it (they limit the tower facilities for municipal, state and federal telecommunications purposes only.)
 
damn... it be nice if they would let AAF especially with the situation their in. I just sucks not being able to listen to them basically almost all up and down the I-91 corridor anymore.

Their new signal really bites-I have found a lot of nulls within 10-15 mi of the Boylston transmitter with lots of other stations coming in from distances twice as far. Prior to the switch AAF was the big fish in many areas; now they are just swimming for survival w/ other fishes that can and will devour them over time.
 
WAAF sucks now fair and square......

Used to be 1 of my favorites here in Upstate NY (They used to make it wonderfully before they moved thier stick.)
