WAAF took a dive in the ratings

WAAF's ratings took a dive in the last update. And before everyone gets their undies in a twist, yes, I'm basing this on 12+ because that's what is available.

What happened? Seriously?

I don't want to relive the death of WILD, but this does raise a good question....how much is the 97.7 frequency bringing to the table? Would the company do well to program 97.7 in a different format?

who can think of at least 3 different formats that don't currently exist in the greater Boston area. But there's no point in bringing them up because copycat radio requires no imagination ;D

I hate to beat a dead horse, but...They really should move back to Paxton! That site (combined with 97.7) simply covers many more ears then the channel 27 one does....

More ears=better ratings.

Greg Hill and the Man Town Morning Show is just hacky crap radio plain and simple (come on Looney Tune Tuesday?) Can these guy do anything that they didn't learn at Morning Show Boot Camp?

They play a lot of garbage music that BCN won't touch ie: Nickel Back, POD, Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit

Was in Newton visiting friends, and noticed that the 107.3 transmission is far less receivable than Paxton was in that area. Also, 97.7 got lost in the TV tower intermod. For what its worth.

Does WBCN play any new music? While WAAF may not play the cream of the crop, I'll give them credit for not wallowing in dustie oldies because they're too scared to try something new like BCN. People listen to BCN for Opie & Anthony, Toucher & Rich, and the Patriots. Music has nothing to do with it.

I agree that a lot of people listen to BCN for O and A, T and R, and The pats. I personally do not like the music on AAF. I hear more local bands like The Dropkick Murphy's, and The Stree Dogs on 'BCN especially during Adam 12's shift. I don't think that people listening to a station for the air talent is a reason to fault them though. I really think that once the PPM takes effect we are going to see a huge shift. I think JMN is going to go down, and BCN is going to move up. Just my opinion though. I think that a lot of the "urban" listeners stay close to the family and attend school where they can stay close, where as "suburban" listeners tend to move away to go to college. What that means is that the young "urban" listeners are much more likely to have a home phone than the "suburban" listener who has been transplanted to Boston. I think THAT is one of the huge problems with Arbitron as it stands right now.

(This is not meant to be a racist comment, btw. In my experience the majority of kids who grow up in the city tend to listen to hip hop wether they are black or white, or martian. Most kids I know who grew up in the suburbs tend to listen to alternative and rock music again both black, white, and martian. Color is not the issue as far as I see it. It is the surrounding culture and economics, not race.)

WBCN does play new music...probably not as much as i'd like to hear but you can typically hear newer stuff on hardy's show..last night I was listening around 9 or so and I heard the new flogging molly, REM and Rise against...he's also been playing that song by the flobots which has been stuck in my head for days now...
