It goes back to how Imus, etc., would do political talk in morning (on WEEI, later grabbed by 96.9
when EEI decided not to renew--for a short time 96.9 was actually "Imus in the morning, smooth jazz all day", till they went fully into talk). It would bring in an audience that may not necessarily be interested in sports, or at least they're not as "into it" as most EEI listeners are. They figure we do sports talk most of the time but for morning drive, let's add some other things in. And many middle
aged guys tend to be at least partially conservative, the type who'd listen to Howie Carr (like me!)
Could you imagine EEI putting on hosts who would espouse political views like those of
Jeff Santos?
They figure if you're not of their political ilk, you can always try NPR or WWZN. And up until last year they didn't have any real competition in sports talk radio. Along came 98.5. Now of course 98.5 may be trying to get a younger audience, and politically they may be more liberal or moderate--I don't
know how often T&R get into politics, but certainly they are an alternative should John and Gerry
displease you. (If you have a sat. radio or live near a station that carries ESPN more often
than WEEI does, maybe their morning show--Mike and Mike?--could be another alternative.)
Some people who had the idea that EEI could move to 107.3/97.7 suggested that Hill could
move to the RKO morning show. And while it may be true that AAF is getting crushed in
ratings for morning show maybe it's also been said AAF is making money otherwise, but I'm
getting off the subject.
For that morning drive audience, Wolfe figures people might want some political talk mixed in
with the sports talk--even though he already has pol. talk just down the aisle from EEI
in the RKO studios (Tom and Todd; competing against himself?)
The ratings and billing must be such that Wolfe prefers to continue with D&C and their
current format. btw a couple yrs ago their contracts were expiring and they almost were
heading to perhaps a "sports talk network" Nassau was putting together but after some kind
of lockout Wolfe brought them back in and squashed any potential "sports talk network"
for Nassau (Sports Talk 99.5? Remember?)

>>"D&C" headed to WCRB?
David Scott reports that “Dennis & Callahan” may be headed for classical station WCRB (99.5 FM), which could become the hub of a regional sports network. He rounds up Globe and Herald coverage as well.
