Pensacola/Fort Walton WAAZ Crestview signal overloading my radios

5/6 I've noticed this before. 104.7 is coming through on 101.1. While listening to WYOO Springfield, FL thought I was getting dx with a band opening. Turned out it's WAAZ. Heard their ID. This is happening on both the Tecsun PL- 880 and my car radio! I know they're a strong station, 100 kW, but how is that possible? Just went to their fundamental frequency, and it's not bleeding through on adjacent frequencies there. Can't get them on 104.9, or 104.5, so what's going on? The Tecsun isn't prone to signal overload. It was happening this morning but not right now. I did hear it in my car around 4:00 this afternoon. Has anyone else ever had this happen? Thanks for any responses. If it happens again I'll try the local/dx switch!
 
You're likely hearing an FM simulcast of WAAZ FM via the AM station's (WJSB) FM translator at 101.1 FM.

Crestview radio is weird.
They have WJSB(AM) with a translator on 101.1. WJSB simulcasts, almost full time, on 100kw WAAZ 104.7. They only break the simulcast for high school sports. So we get to hear the same programming on all 3 local Crestview radio stations.
Always been that way.

The problem with the signal on 101.1 is it's too close to Panama City. At least if you're in Destin like me. However it doesn't always come in. I didn't hear it yesterday, while listening to WYOO. There must be a null someplace where they need coverage they don't get from 104.7. Maybe up around I-10?
I'll listen the next time I'm in that area.

Do they simulcast whatever is on WJSB? I noticed today it's not what's on WAAZ. Which is what I thought.

I also heard a station playing soft instrumental type music on 101.1 today, 6/15. Was curious if anyone has an idea who that could be, since there are many stations on that frequency. What I heard sounded like an instrumental version of "Over the Rainbow."
 
Over the last couple decades I’ve only known of WJSB and WAAZ to run separate programming with Crestview high school sports.

With 104.7 and 101.1 on the same tower, it would make sense that they planned to separate them one day. Or move WAAZ to Fort Walton and sell it to Cumulus while keeping WJSB/101.1 in Crestview. Most of their advertising is already local to Crestview.
 
While WJSB/WAAZ share the same ID's, they aren't exactly simulcasting. Same format, same advertisers, etc. I was driving through last year and heard Tom T Hall on 104.7 and Tracy Lawrence on 1050/101.1
 
I drove through Crestview today. WAAZ and WJSB are not simulcasting. The RDS for the two stations was correct but 101.1 was IDing as WAAZ while 104.7 was IDing as WAAZ and WJSB. It seemed like 101.1 was playing all classic country while 104.7 had newer country mixed in.
