WAAZ/WJSB Kinda cool :)

It's kinda neat to see WAAZ do fairly well, and to see WJSB show up as a daytimer. I listen sometimes, and wonder that probably the studios haven't changed in 30 years. It's the only station that plays a lullabye for the signoff at 6PM (AM)...and offer the listeners a "forecast of 10% chance of rain".
Corny...yes....tight presentation..nah....but as they say if it ain't broke don't fix it. They probably have some of the same advertisers since day one, and make money. I know that alot of the daytime AM's that are owned by people that have had them for 20...30...40...years are doing well, becuause they are in touch with their community...and really haven't change that much...any comments or examples...Way to go AAZ & JSB..:)<P ID="signature">______________

I agree... WAAZ is a breath of fresh air in a world of corporate radio. What's wrong with cutting off a song for CBS News at the top of every hour? I love the University of Florida Extension Agent report at noon. I think they also do obituaries around noon too. But my favorite thing on WAAZ is Jerry Clower jokes at 4:30 and 5:30 every day.
WAAZ and WJSB simulcast so if you add their ratings together that would make WAAZ a top 5 station in the Fort Walton market.
The bad thing about WAAZ is that the DJ sounds like he's getting very old. How much longer can he last? And seeing as WAAZ is a 100kw staion, I'm sure Clear Channel or Cumulus will snatch it away from the locals as soon as it goes up for sale.

Well, Top 6 anyway. ;-) Of course, you can add almost any two co-owned stations together and come up with a Top 5 or Top 6 rank.

Jimmy Whiteaker is a world-class act. He won't sell
it to CC or Cumulus because he is old school. The
station is his passion and he increased the power
just because the FCC forced him to do so or loose
the coverage. The station itself (up in Crestview)
is a real flashback. I am glad to hear he is doing
okay, still.

They're not just co-owned, WJSB is an exact simulcast of WAAZ and has been for well over 5 years. Their ratings should be combined by Arbitron, I don't have any idea why they list them as seperate stations instead of a simulcast.

My bad. I'm going to the timeout chair now.

Yes, they SHOULD be combined and Arbitron made a commitment to combine simulcasts. Last time I asked them what was taking so long I got some answer having to do with their software problems. You'd think that for as much as they charge they could figure out how to make a combo for simulcasts without the buyer having to manually combine them.
