WABB-FM a sad sale

I have nothing against K-LOVE personally but everytime K-Love gobbles up a station, it means less people will have the opportunity to work in radio. This is disconcerting.

When The FCC came up with the ruling that allowed non-comms to buy stations throughout the nation, it was the intent that these would be under-served areas predominately rural communities.

I would like the FCC to revisit this and not allow non-comms to spread out greater than two hundred miles from the originating station.

This would result in less consolidation, greater employment opportunities and better radio. Additionally, it would result in more local radio for everyone.

Technically, WABB-FM *is* the originating station. The FCC really never made any change to allow nationwide chains of full-power non-comms like K-Love. That's always been legal, it's just that nobody has tried to do it before.

I do think the Commission messed up with the satellite-fed *translator* thing. A simple rules change would address it: rather than requiring non-fillin translators fed by other than over-the-air means to be owned by the originating station, require that they *not* be owned by the originating station -- that they meet the same ownership requirements applicable to LPFMs. If the people of West Podunk *want* a K-Love translator badly enough to be willing to pay for it, let them.

While I may not echo all of your comments, Josh, at least there is something constructive here.

You're right. EMF is operating within the Law and the transfer WILL be approved. In fact, it MUST be approved if it meets the necessary criteria. So, WABB is gone. Those who are screaming otherwise either don't know the law or are coming from a position of anti-religious animus.

But, if you believe this violates Public Policy, file a Petition for Rulemaking with the FCC. It's not a difficult process and happens all the time. It doesn't have to be a long document. There are no magic words or phrases needed. One just makes a cogent argument, based on facts, and potential solutions. I doubt much if anything will come of it, but I have been wrong. I have seen petitions that look like they were written by third-graders go up for public comment.

DeadElvis that's a very good point!

It has troubled me for sometime. We run a Christian Radio Network in Southern New Jersey and are praying that God will allow us to expand, but within the confines of our region.

To me it is so sweet to serve locally and to be able to reach out to our listeners directly with concerts, remotes, etc. We're close to them and aid the local churches in the fact that they can have their sermons broadcast on our stations. Many people have been able to connect with these churches as a direct result of what we do.

We also employ local DJs, customer reps, etc. Some of our jocks are syndicated but we expect to hire more local jocks as we grow.
