WABC 4PM in September

Would WABC consider a 4pm newscast once Oprah leaves the air?

I ask specifically to NY, because the 4pm newscast on broadcast hasn't been embraced for whatever reason in the NY market. Maybe it's perceived as a waste of valuable time, as competing stations like WNBC, would rather use the time for the #1 market clearance.

Does ABC have plans for something else for its stations, either another ABC network show or a show from its syndicated arm?

Are there other new syndicated shows in the pipe that WABC might pick up? Or, would "Who Wants to Be A Millionaire" or "Rachael Ray" likely move to 4?

It'd be interesting if WABC replaced Oprah with a unknown Judge copy cat show. i.e. replace a No. 1 show with something very unoriginal.

One of ABC's largest affiliate group (Hearst) is already planning on moving Ellen to 4pm in Boston; in Atlanta, the Cox ABC station is planning a newscast. It seems the affiliates are not awaiting to see what ABC (via it's largest station) is going to do at this point.

Here's what we do know: WABC is the most-watched station in New York City, and Oprah is a huge part of that.

Here's something else we know: We live in a world where the "early" news no longer starts at 6 AM or even 5 AM.

So with other markets developing 4 PM newscasts, it wouldn't shock me if WABC kept viewers with what they're already familiar with and started their own 4 PM newscast. Lord knows they've got enough money to support staff for another newscast after that deal with Cablevision earlier this year...

I think they might have... I don't believe WNBC did it, especially as long as they've had "Live At Five." But if WABC put on a 4 PM newscast, there's no doubt they'd make it work.

Didn't WCBS-TV try 4pm news a few years back and it failed?

I think they did. 4pm seems like an awkward time for news. What audience are they targeting at that time? Most people are either still at work or commuting home. I worked in NYC for many years and find that many people work much later than 5pm and have long commutes home. If anything I would think a later newscast makes more sense, like 7pm.

KABC is picking up Dr. Oz to replace Oprah.

I think ABC is doing it station by station and nothing new at the ABC network level will be likely produced, but if something syndicated gets cleared at WABC, it might be cleared also on WPVI, and thus no Action News at 4 in Philly.

I agree with the News at 4 in NY might not be very successful, since many are still at work at that time, and NY has NY1.

Perhaps the Millionaire show could move to 4pm, with a 4:30pm newscast.

I've just heard elsewhere on the site that Rosie O'Donnell will be replacing Oprah starting in the fall of 2011. The 4 PM newscast on WABC is not going to happen. I'm so glad that Rosie O'Donnell is coming back to TV, she hasn't had a talk show since the late 90's or early 2000's. Let's hope if she will come back to WABC-TV.

Rosie is supposed to be going to OWN.
