WABC 770

Did WABC in NY turned IBOC back on? Early this morning at 2 AM the "HD" on my Sony HD tuner display was blinking when I tuned to 770. (HD signal not strong enough)

I haven't had time to listen for the past could of nights but every time I turned them on last week they were whooshing it up 50 Khz wide having a grand old time flattening their less powerful neighbors, usual story, rich stations couldn't care less about the smaller less rich stations adjacent to them, turn it on! Damn them little peons we'll jam 'em to death. The FCC allows us to do it by ignoring harmful interference regs, who cares? It's a free for all now, go for broke! Hhhaaaarrmfful iinntteerrffeerreenncccee nnoiissee, isn't it wonderful here in NY? All you can hear from 685 to 735 is glorious iblock noise, whoopee, everybody must get stoned! Yup NY is probably doing more harm to the AM band at this point anyway than any other part of the country and we in the NE bare the brunt of it at night. Let's hope Obama's people are smart enough to see through this monopoly, i really don't think so, it so sewn up and wrapped it's a shame.

If the light is blinking, it MUST be working, right? ::)

Light blinking and HD not strong enough? Sounds like normal HD reception to me.

I was asking this because I heard little or no iBLOCK on 760 and 780

Oh. Well, then. WJR and WBBM both splash 50 khz wide, too, so you could be hearing a little of 780's hash on 760 and vice-versa.

Then having iboc on both sides of 770, even though theirs might have been off, could have confused the radio into thinking
there was something referenced to 770 and trying to decode it. As the digital sidebands would never add up properly it would keep dropping, but probably kept trying.

Is the hash frying this morning at WABC?

I don't see the HD blinking so it must be the tuner going nuts.

NO, AM-HD is [and has been] “going nuts” from the git-go... For goodness sake, WABC, PLEASE crank-out that good ‘ole fashioned 1966 “Cousin Brucie Show” audio again [reverb optional given the current format] :) :) :) :) :)

The IBLOCK is off again tonight. So is WJR. As in OFF THE AIR completely.

Yes you're right no iBlock on WABC and no WJR I'm getting SS on 760, nice!! wish it wasn't three o'clock in the morning

I had heard that all the Citadel stations (I think WABC is Citadel?) were no longer broadcasting in HD - or more specifically - Citadel's policy was not to fund any HD broadcast equipment repairs or servicing - so if the HD equipment failed that was it - no more HD for that station. I know WJR has not had any HD broadcast for many months now.

WJR has been IBOC-free for most of the year - now if WJR would just go back to (the late) Ed B.'s great-sounding C-Quam stereo setup, I'd be happy, as would the rest of the Midwest!
