WABC AND WOR RATINGS AT AN ALL-TIME LOW

It is what it is. These are two AM talk stations that haven't changed much in the last year, that continue to beat the same dead horse, and attract the same audience. If you want to know why their audience is dropping, just open the paper to the obituaries. That's a list of their listeners.

That being said, either one of those stations could drop conservative talk, and pick up a sports talk network, and neither would see an increase in audience. I doubt that even WFAN-AM by itself (without FM) is getting great numbers. Hiring more staff isn't going to make a difference either. It is what it is.

WOR = World's Oldest Radio

Conservative talk radio is in decline. AM is in decline. It's only a matter of time.

If they were to started from scratch, with a new staff, they wouldn't be doing so well. If either WABC or WOR go that route, they will start from scratch. Do you really think they could hire a new staff of complete unknowns and go to Top 5 in NYC in a year or two? Take a look at WPHT in Philadelphia, and see what happens when you drop heritage syndication for local talk.

As I said: It is what it is.

Forgot about KFI, you're right, they are on or near the top of the pile and stay there consistently...

For years WABC's 6+ has been roughly double that of WOR. Now it's almost the same. WOR has drifted lower while WABC has plummeted. Neither station is what you'd call a great talk station but WOR has a bit more of a unique personality while WABC hac become a syndicated pipeline.

I do believe should WABC go all local in the morning-mid morning-afternoon (around Rush) they would double their cume and climb back to a 4.5 share (they had in the summer of 2004)

*Local* means discussing 5 boro and metro news in great detail, news that gets some coverage on 1010 WINS. Not a show Steve Malzberg did... which was Obama Obama and national issues most of the time.

WABC is currently not a NY station, it caters just as much to the listener who listens online out of Fargo... -- Once those types of listeners lose interest in WABC you'll see WABC ratings going upward.

They will NEVER get close to a 4 share again regardless of who is on in morning drive. It is what it is.

They can talk about the 5 boros all day, and they'll be like WNYC-AM with a better signal.

As I said, look at WPHT in Philadelphia. All local talk all day. They have fewer listeners than WOR.

Cant compare to 'PHT, they went south after dropping Rush, was a stupid thing to do.

Or was it that the station that did pick them up was more aggressive. They also dropped Hannity and Beck beforehand, and I don't remember how much of an impact that had on ratings.

As for WFAN, it's 100% about billing. They're still in the top 10 of all stations nationwide. As is the aforementioned KFI.

I stopped listening to WOR and WABC in the mornings and at any time a long time ago.
The Gambling and Imus shows are full of stupid.
They are Republican talking point shows and are boring.

This morning is another example of Bad Radio. This Pol they have on is just awful.

What are they thinking at Cchannel?

No way will it happen. Cumulus isn't going to pour that kind of $$$$ into WABC. I wouldn't be surprised if Cumulus puts CBS Sports Network on 770 after Rush and Sean's contracts expire.

I agree with you that WABC is not a NY station. It's NY station by COL only. :)

The ratings don't include online listeners in Fargo. Only the geographical NYC area. From what I can see, the typical WABC listener tunes in specifically for the host, not the topics being discussed. So it doesn't matter what they talk about. They are fans of the specific hosts.

You missed my point which is that WABC hosts are not discussing issues concerning new yorkers, that's why their ratings is where it is.
