WABC GM Turns Down Imus

http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=457031

"WABC GM Steve Borneman contradicts that report telling Reuters, "I wish Mr. Imus well, but we are happy with our morning show (hosted by Curtis Sliwa and Ron Kuby)."

I suppose John R. Gambling can breathe a sigh of relief, as well... Then again, he did specifically say he was "happy with our morning show"...

Of course, no word from PD Phil Boyce at this time...

Does anyone honestly think that if WABC, or any other radio station, was in negotiations with Don Imus that station management would let the 'cat out of the bag'? Of course not! I believe in the old saying "where there is smoke-there is fire." Too many stories have been written lately pointing to the return of Imus in the Morning to make me believe that something is in the works.
Sharpton has been quoted as saying he would have no problems in Imus returning to the airwaves. Many of Imus' close friends and colleagues have said Imus will be back as early as next month. I don't care what management is saying right now because experience has taught me that managers lie through their teeth, especially when it comes to changes in programming or personnel. It is also interesting that one of the Rutgers basketball players now plans to sue Imus. Why did she wait until now instead of when the incident occured this past April? Could it be because Imus is returning to radio?

Also no word from long-time Imus friend Farid Suleman..who's opinion would trump Borneman's and Boyce's opinion!

For good reason

  • Curtis & Kuby have gained listeners on 77 since CBS Radio showed Imus the door.
  • WABC is now owned by Citadel, which does not want to add payroll. That was a corporate decision made before the current turmoil in the financial industry.
  • Imus has a big fat defamation suit over his head. CBS, Westwood One and NBC Universal will be in the dock with him as co-defendants.
