How profitable can this really be? I thought that was why CBS pulled out the radio news business...shrinking ad dollars.
CBS is now owned by a tech bro who probably doesn't even own a radio.

The many stations across the country that carry CBS newscasts need someplace to go and this might be it. If it works for them programmatically and financially then it can be a home run.

There are eight other options, and they all have more heritage and better contacts that this. I can't imagine any radio station paying money for TOH news. Unless it's free, there's no reason to carry it. And if it's free or just two spots an hour, it won't make enough money to make it worthwhile.
...
Exactly. It was losing money. You can't pay all those people on two spots an hour.
Cats isn't known to be totally focused on money. If this gives him a nationwide or maybe worldwide presence perhaps that's enough for now. It could ultimately pay off in different ways. There are eight other options, and they all have more heritage and better contacts that this. I don't think he WANTS to lose money.Keep in mind that success for Cats is being able to do what he wants. That's not the same as making money.
But the truth is, he is. No use trying to sugarcoat that.I don't think he WANTS to lose money.

What's this idea that if you lose money on one business venture that it yields a benefit to an owner's other businesses?Catsimatidis isn't making money on his supermarkets either. As I was editing last week's Cats Roundtable program, I heard him mention that he hasn't run Gristedes or D'Agostino "in about 10, 15 years". Both could do better with new ownership, but he won't sell them probably because he likes the tax write-off he gets. It's the same with WABC.
