So, I tune into Curtis and Kuby today and I hear some woman doing news. Who the hell was that? WABC grabbing people from Penn Sta or doing on the air auditions?? Who the hell is running that place now??

Cumulus should not be allowed to own any licenses!! They obviously hate radio!!
 
That was Laura Smith. Funny, I was thinking she sounded great ... a huge improvement over the guy who usually does that shift.
 
Does WABC still have its own news department or do they out-source to Metro?

Sounds like you don't think women should be doing news. I'll admit, thanks to affirmative action, women do get hired who don't have the pipes to be on the air in major markets or nationally.
 
Laura Smith.....isn't that the lady that does those horrible infomercials on Sat and Sun?
 
Laura Smith is one of those folks who gave been kicking around the fringes of NY radio for years. She always sounds ill prepared for interviews she does..I guess the new WABC PD has decided to use her in a bigger role.
 
Nope. The other guy is back. Someone very familiar with WABC commented recently on another message board that he sounds more like the paper boy than a newsman. Laura Smith was a definite improvement, IMO, although I did hear her stumble a few times -- she didn't sound totally prepared.

But what's the difference, really. This is a radio station whose news staff once included Bruce Anderson, Harley Karnes and others.
 
I heard IMUS rip Cumulus for what they'd done to ruin a legendary radio station like WABC and I have to agree. IMUS ain't what he was, but at least he's a pro...more than can be said for many on the air there today! Yes, great news names associated with WABC from Bob Hart and others. Too bad where radio has gone.
 
Cumulus destroyed KGO NewsTalk 810in San Francisco. Once a dominant player in the Bay Area now 12th or 13th place and continues to sink.

Bruce and Harley were great. I'm sure Laura will be great too !
