WABC Overnights

Don Barrett's LARadio.com reports today (front page is open
to all, the inside is subscriber-only) that Doug McIntyre will
resume his Red Eye Radio show next week and it will air live
on WABC 1-5 AM ET.

http://www.laradio.com/

McIntyre will be doing the show from El Lay and three of the
four hours will air on KABC Los Angeles, but delayed from
12-3 AM PT.

Meaning that Coast To Coast UFOs is outa here on WABC.
Anyone hear about a new Gotham affiliate for C2C?

My question is, will WABC still air infomercials on Friday late nights like they have been doing to pre-empt "Coast To Coast" on that night? I would assume Doug will be doing Sunday night/Monday morning through Thursday night/Friday morning 1-5 AM? Is that how his schedule is set up in L.A.? And what about Saturday nights/Sunday mornings? "Coast To Coast" weekends? Nope, probably more infomercials, yay!

Actually, now that I think about it, I do have another question: What now airs from 5-6 AM leading into "Imus in the Morning"? Best of Imus?

I bet it has something to do with C2CAM being a premier networks show and WABC being owned by Citadel.

I wonder where it'll go. WOR is out of the question, and WNYM is unlikely. Of course, one could hear the show pretty easily on WPHT or WGY.

Never say never. You'll never know when Joey Reynolds might do his last show... and unfortunately, because it is the radio business, he himself may not know until after the fact... I guess if it's cheaper to have Joey on WOR than to pipe in George Noory & Co., Joey can thank his lucky stars.

And don't forget that WOR currently airs another Premiere show in Glenn Beck.

5-6am on WABC is a news hour. Chuck used to do the hour before Imus switched his TV gig to Fox. But with the distance between the WABC and FBN studios, it was no longer practical for Chuck to do the 5-6 shift.

Is "The Wall Street Journal Report" cleared in the New York City market? Yes, it's more syndicated garbage, but in New York, at least such a show would make sense. WLS/Chicago currently airs "WSJR" every morning at 4 AM.

I haven't heard about a new Gotham affiliate for Coast to Coast AM, but I intend to continue to listen via WiFi Internet radio at another affiliate. Google WiFi radio and lots of great models come up. If you have broadband Internet in your place, you can tune into 11,000 stations all over the world! I got a TEAC model and it sounds great. Bye, Bye WABC for me.

From the last line of the LARadio.com article: "Doug McIntyre’s Red Eye Radio will broadcast 7 days a week with the enormously popular Marc ‘Mr. KABC’ Germain piloting the Sunday night flight via satellite by ABC Radio Syndication."

On WABC's website, it's mentioned that the show will air "live" Mon.-Fri. from 1-5am. On the other days WABC may broadcast the "syndicated" show. Link: http://wabcradio.com/Article.asp?id=1686774

There is an inconsistency in the reporting & the WABCRadio.com web article: if Marc Germain is hosting the "Sunday night flight" (meaning early Monday, I assume), and from the news item also posted on allaccess.com that says the show will air on WABC from Mon.-Sun. 1-5am ET, it appears that Doug will actually be heard "live" on early Tuesday to Saturday mornings, with (I assume) a pre-recorded show on Saturday night/Sunday morning. I assume this means WABC gets 1 night of Germain followed by 5 "live" nights of McIntyre followed by 1 "pre-recorded" night of McIntyre. Well have to wait until WABC posts its schedule for next week on their website.

Update: after hearing Doug's podcast from his Friday morning 5-6am show on WABC, he will be heard "live" on Red Eye Radio Monday-Friday mornings from 1am-5am & continue from 5am-6am on the McIntyre In The Morning show. (Means that the LARadio.com reporting about Marc "Mr. KABC" Germain being on the "Sunday night flight" must be wrong; he could be on early Sunday morning, possibly.) Whether WABC will actually carry the "syndicated" (pre-recorded? best-of?) show on early Saturday morning and/or the show hosted by Marc Germain on (I'm guessing) early Sunday morning is still open for discussion.

All contigent on believing the story from allaccess.com saying that the show will air Mon.-Sun. 1-5am ET on WABC N.Y.C. / Midnight-3am PT (delayed) on KABC L.A.

My guess is that on Friday nights/Saturday mornings, WABC will continue to air infomercials, with which the station has replaced the Friday night/Saturday morning edition of "Coast To Coast," even to this day. It would be a testament to CC if the very last night the show was eligible for broadcast on WABC, that they'd be replaced with infomercials.

To quote the huckster characters on "In Living Color": "Mo' money, mo' money, mo' money!"

Since Citadel has filed for bankruptcy, "Mo Money" is vital.

The following quote concerns the removal of Coast to Coast AM from management at WABC:

WABC PD LAURIE CANTILLO said, "DOUG MCINTYRE'S RED EYE RADIO is a refreshing live alternative to traditional overnight fare, which is canned, conspiratorial, and just plain dull.”

This unfortunate quote along with the current WABC promotional phrase, “more going on at night than just flying saucers” is an insult and marginalizes the entire loyal listening audience of Coast to Coast AM. Coast is live, not canned and certainly not dull. It shows a total ignorance on the part of WABC’s management in realizing the actual content and value of the show.

Apparently the “refreshing alternative” is to add yet another shallow radio personality with a dumbing down of content to attract a wider audience. This is dismal.

You should see former WABC-er Curtis Sliwa lobbying for his new station (The Apple) to try and pick up C2C on the Dentist's board!

That would be "Moe Money" from 6-7 PM on KABC El Lay.

In other news, C2C has also just been dropped by WRKO Boston,
or else Cheap Channel yanked it from The Big 68 in order to move
it to its own AM on 1200 with the recent facility upgrade.

Interesting that CC will resort to such practices when the intended new talk station isn't even on FM.
