WABC Owner Burns More $$$, Brings In Another Polarizing Pol To Host Show

The ex-aid to disgraced former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is joining the air staff of WABC Radio New York. Melissa DeRosa will host a Sunday talk show on the Red Apple Media talk station.

Cuomo and DeRosa became household names during the COVID-19 pandemic, taking heat for the administration’s deadly decision to force nursing homes to accept COVID-19 patients transferred from overcrowded hospitals.

And yes, they will take calls on the show because "I am well versed on how tough we can be."

The headline is asinine. “Big name?” Um, no.
In "Cat's" market, and among the WABC demos, that is what you'd consider a big name. It's relative, I know, but more ad world puffery than an outright lie.
And the text of the release with his quote is just Boomer garbage.
And who is the release aimed at? Could it be "Boomers"?

The "asinine" headline is not "Big Name," it's "Big Name From New York Politics". In that context it's currently (and over the recent few years) more accurate than not.

As for "Boomer garbage," isn't that an accurate description for all of current day WABC?

An aide to an ex-governor...sure, who among us hasn't wondered what the aides to ex-governors have to say. On Sunday afternoons. He can puff it up, and we can point out the absurdity of it. Circle of life and all that.

She was a little more than an ex-aide to Cuomo. DeRosa was his top political advisor, possibly his chief of staff for a period, and campaign manager (IIRC), something like what David Axelrod was to Obama, or Karl Rove to GW Bush. Maybe Kellyanne Conway for Trump is also relevant. All those people ended up in media.

Not claiming to be any kind of fan of hers, much less Cuomo's, just trying to be fair and present alternative facts.:ROFLMAO:

Why not give WABC's owner some credit for at least trying. I appreciate he's going live and local - some of the shows and ideas may make you want to roll your eyes but at least he's not wall to wall syndication on weekdays, and wall to wall colon cleansers on the weekends. It's his money and his station and it seems to be doing better than it was under Cumulus, when it was usually way in the back of the pack, tied with WOR and where WOR remains, while WABC has doubled its audience. I suppose WABC's 6+ improvement hides negligible gains in the "key" demo. But these days, ANY kind of upward movement of ANY demo is welcome sight for a news/talk station.

Totally agree. I don't like or agree with the right wing hosts but I'd choose to listen to a station knowing it's live and local. We need many more owners like WABC's.
