WABC Rewound 2010?

My guess is that any WABC Rewound this year will be online only as it was last year. I follow several message and haven't seen any announcement. Does anybody know anything for sure?

Thanks

Bruce

Apparently the current management does not have much of an appreciation for the heritage of the station. I think a good compromise would be a 3 hour WABC Rewound including a discussion with Dan Ingram, Cousin Brucie and others.

I will be listening to Rewoundradio for at least some of the weekend.

Yes, but it is now titled "Saturday Night" (dropped the "oldies" - gee, wonder why) and it's still hosted by Mark Simone but the main features on the show are interviews and not music.

As far as this year's "Rewound," well, I had a feeling WABC wasn't going to do anything and that Allan might air airchecks of past "Rewound" shows on his "Rewound Radio" Internet station. In fact, I wonder if he was inspired to launch the new radio station after hearing awhile ago that WABC would not be airing a "Rewound" special this year.

I've heard it on "Board Reflections" yesterday that he will be playing 10 years of "WABC Rewound", uncut with zero commercials on Rewound Radio. It's not going to be on WABC on Memorial Day. WABC is done with the "Rewound" specials.

If WLS in Chicago does carried the "WLS Rewind" specials on Memorial Day, I don't see it happening anytime soon.

I hope that they should bring back the "WABC Jingle Montage" from 2001 which will be on Rewound Radio. I would love to hear a composite of WABC jingles through the years on Rewound Radio for the first time in 9 years.

Perhaps WCBS-FM should pick up the slack and air old airchecks of the great Top 40 stations.

Nick - that will not happen. The "Radio Greats" special heard on Sunday nights was dropped because the ratings were low. I suggest you listen to http://www.reelradio.com for old airchecks of Top 40 stations. There is a $15/year subscription fee, but it is worth it. Allan Sniffen has old WABC and WMCA airchecks on his site. There are other sites on the web with old airchecks.

This isn't a weekly Sunday night special, I'm thinking of just an annual Memorial Day show on WCBS-FM to pick up the listeners that used to listen to WABC Rewound.

In 2007 Joe McCoy who consulted with the Breeze organized a radio greats reunion that was heard on the air locally at the Jersey shore and online at http://breezeradio.com. The current management of WCBS-FM did salute Ron Lundy at his passing, so it is possible for WCBS-FM to have a reunion of its personalities. Hopefully, the bitterness over the events of June 3, 2005 has left and many like Harry Harrison and Bill Brown among others would return for a yearly event. Let's hope that it will happen.

Demographics rear their ugly head once again. If you remember WABC in its top 40 heyday, chances are you are perilously close to 55 if not over.

A lot of young people aren't even listening to the radio on Memorial Day. The people who remember Musicradio WABC will listen to the radio because they grew up with it.

I don't listen to old airchecks anymore. :( Its time to move on!! just gets me upset if I listen to them, once in a while I will.

They might not call it "oldies" but the music most definitely oldies. Simone also plugs Sniffen's board still, so the show hasn't changed much. I kinda like the mix of music and talk.

My guess is that "Rewound" was a favorite of Phil Boyce. When he left WABC, it was just a matter of time until his replacement - whomever that would be - would replace it - on air, or online.
