WABC - What happened to Lionel, 2-5 am weekends

For the past two weeks, Lionel was in that slot.

Last night it was "The T.J. McCormack Show." Good show ... a much better fit in the middle of the night than Lionel's high energy delivery.

During the show there was a long promo for "Lionel's new show."

But the WABC website says:

"The T.J. McCormack Show, airing Saturdays and Sundays from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m., delivers a lively mix of political humor, sharp commentary, and engaging conversation to energize your weekend mornings."

What's going on?

Yep, from the WABC website for next week:

"Bold. Unfiltered. Provocative. The Other Side of Midnight with Lionel dives headfirst into the stories shaping our world—politics, law, media, and the shifting dynamics of American culture. Hosted by Emmy Award-winning legal and media analyst Lionel, the show challenges conventional narratives and explores the undercurrents of power and influence with fearless commentary and razor-sharp wit. With decades of broadcasting experience and a loyal online following, Lionel brings his signature style—equal parts intellect, satire, and showmanship—to the 77 WABC airwaves. Listen to The Other Side of Midnight with Lionel on weeknights from 2AM-5AM."

If he is the new host for The Otherside of Midnight I think some of the stations will drop the show. I am surprised they have not dropped the show as Frank is no longer with the show anymore. Maybe they have not figured out what to do next as its not official yet what is going to happen with the show.

Lionel is the new host of The Otherside of Midnight as thhe intro and outro announces him as the host. As over the last month it did not have a host name, it was just blank. The couple times I tried listening to him, both times he spent 30 minutes going on about people in radio he does not and has never listened to before. "I do not listen to that person, I couldn't tell you the station they were on". My guess is stations like WCCO, KMOX and WGN when they figure out what to do overnight in the next couple months they will drop the show.

Hearing this guy on the station that used to broadcast the likes of Jim White (KMOX) is cringeworthy. Lionel strikes me as someone who likes to hear himself talk. This is true of many other broadcasters, but in their case they're also more listenable to others.
Stations like KMOX and WCCO are kinda caught in a catch-22. Of course they'd probably want someone in overnight who isn't a far-right conspiracy kook whose best days were a generation ago as a token liberal, but when the alternatives are Red Eye Radio and Coast to Coast AM...

If you want something loud and jumpy to keep you awake at night, Lionel is your choice. Something to put you to sleep? That's the other two.
