WABC WOR POOR RECEPTION

I live in Pennsylvania, over the border from Phillipsburg, New Jersey about 75 miles from New York.

At night, both stations are so annoyingly noisy (fading in and out) that they are virtually non existent.

I was wondering what was going on, because I don't remember having this problem in the past.

These stations being as powerful as they are should come in pretty well given they are 50,000 watts!

Does anyone out there know what is going on or the reason for this?

I think the days of WABC being heard in 38 states, Canada and the Carribean are gone for good. The noise floor on AM is intolerable unless your on the local groundwave. Very local. IBOC has made it worse. WABC is non existant most ANY night at the South Jersey Shore, and daytime reception is spotty at best.

Your memory is correct however. I remember the Dan Ingram incident when he sadly announced (paraphrasing) that "WABC barely finished in the Top 15 in the ratings"...then smiling in his voice after a pregnant pause..."in Pittsburgh" .

Their tower maybe the cats meow, but the ground system, fully half of an AM antenna, has seemingly gone to the dogs.

I used to listen to Dan Ingram in the Fall/Winter months starting around 4:30PM in Palm Bay Fl (Central East Coast) in my Deli. It would amaze my Costumers to hear Dan Ingram and NY News, Weather and Traffic there in my store.
Of course now we can hear 1050 ESPN on XM with all that, But back then it was something special
I also used to listen to Art Rusk Jr at night when ABC went to Talk and I also was able to hear WFAN all night back then, But now You are lucky to hear more than 30 seconds of distant radio stations anymore.
