WABC's Oldies Show to be a pleasant memory?

Well rather than 77AM WABC have a program on Saturday night called
Saturday Night Oldies, why does'nt WABC keep Mark Simone at that same time slot from 6- 10PM but with a entertainment show called "Saturday Night Retro"; where he can continue having Celebrity guests from past Classic TV Shows, as well as Vintage Radio Commercials without the music.

Allan Sniffen says "Time To Cancel Saturday Night Oldies"

Must be time to leave it to the successful station that specializes in this type of format 101.1?

Lets clearify that WCBS FM 101.1 is not considered a Oldies Station, but
Classic Hits Format playing songs from the 60's, 70's, and 80's.

BINGO!!!! That's what the show is anyway. The music is superfluos. If you want to keep your branding as a Talk Station, that's the solution.

For those that have been speculating, Saturday Night Oldies IS NOT BEING CANCELED.
The Show is doing very well. We are overloaded with advertising and the show is sold
out every week. The ratings are strong, especially with the Younger Demo's.
For instance, in the 7-8PM Hour the Show is number 2 in Adults 25-54, which
will be an amazing accomplishment for an FM Station, so imagine how
miraculous that is for an FM Talk Station.

But we are looking to improve things and maybe some of those on the Message
Board, including Allan Sniffen are right that about updating the show or
adding new elements and features. No matter how popular certain aspects of
the show are, things do eventually gets stale. We will discuss it on the
show this week with the audience and maybe invite ALLAN SNIFFEN on to
discuss it. So I hope that everybody will be listening and calling in with
idea's on helping the show improve and evolve.

Umnmm...speak for yourself. What you should have said is "*I* don't consider WCBS-FM an oldies station".

Ask the average person on the street what kind of music CBS-FM plays...the answer will be oldies.

Ask the average ad agency rep (and/or buyer) what the format is of CBS-FM..the answer will be oldies.

Ask every program director around the country...the answer will be oldies.

Ask a 50's 60's music fan who is upset that life has moved on...and they will tell you that CBS-fm "really isn't an "oldies station"".

Well, by your own post - Most say CBS FM is an oldies station. Now I listen often to 101.1 and I hear songs from the 50's, 60's, 70's and early 80's. Guess what - Early 80's is over 25 years old like an antique.

Sorry pal - WCBS FM is an oldies station whether you like it or not. And you obviously don't count! Its the agencies, advertisers, and general listening public that make up the masses.

In a few decades, the music I enjoyed in high school will be "oldies". I have a hard time with AC stations playing songs that were played on rhythmic CHR. I will cringe at the thought of hearing Usher - Yeah on CBS-FM and the fact that 50s-70s music would die when the generation that listened to that music dies. I'm 21 years old and I like rhythmic CHR such as Now, but please, keep that crap off the oldies and AC stations.
