WABC's Saturday Night Oldies 1/20/2007 More ACish.

If you listened to Saturday Night Oldies on Saturday with Mark Simone 6-10PM, you may have thought you were listening to an AC station like WNEW-AM of the 70's if you take out some of the harder rock oriented songs.

Artists like Tom Jones, Barry Manilow and One-hit Wonder Bobbi Martin with a more of a heavy rotation of their made the station sound a little less Top 40 like.

Thanks,
Kevin L. Sealy

You got a taste of Music Pow-Pow-Power

"For the Love of Him" by Bobbi Martin -- got all the way to #3 on the WABC Music Power Survey in the spring of 1970. Still sounds great today even if you don't agree with the message.

Tom Jones and Barry Manilow had their share of big hits on 77 too.

Rick Sklar (R.I.P.) always intended 77 to be a mass-appeal station for the metropolitan area. The music snobs may fawn over FM rock. I'm thrilled to say I grew up with 77.

Chuckydoll,

That's what made WABC a great station during its heydays. You would hear a Sinatra song song right next to the Beatles or a Motown hit

Thanks,
Kevin L. Sealy

Ditto! I could never get into Rock WNEW, although I tried to. That whole scene struck me as being an uber-snob zone: "We're cool, you're not FM." LOL!
