WABE Radio Announcer

Whats the scoop on the lady who does late mornings on public radio - her name is Lois. Is she an elderly woman, seems she'b been there forever. The reason I ask, everytime I tune in (probably 2 or 3 times yearly) and hear her, her speech patterns seem to become slower and slower.

I may be the least qualified person out here to respond to your question. From a distance I offer these observations:

Lois is MORE that an announcer, a voice on the air. I get the idea she is one of prime-movers in the shaping and operation of WABE.

She is hosting a music format that does not need, that does not WANT a fast-paced, go-go voice.

She apparently walks the walk. She is not a talking head sitting in a studio babbling about something she knows nothing about. She runs with, she socializes with the people who enjoy classical music, the people who financially support classical music.

Having been accused of having a "lazy voice" in my case, I rather enjoy her slow pace. Makes me and my own foice feel validated.

That would be Lois Reitzes. I happen to like her sound and think she's appropriate for that format and shift. And I agree with the Goat Man that she is more than an announcer.

I agree. Lois is more than a voice. She is personality. If you listen to her long enough, she becomes a friend. That connection used the be the hallmark of announcers, but the era is long past. She is definately made for WABE's classical shows.

Lois IS WABE! Knows more about classical music than anyone. Perfect delivery for the station. Goss sounds good, but too breathy.
