WABM 68.2 drops The Cool TV

Damn. It's gone from their WFGX in Pensacola, too. There's not even a subchannel to tune to anymore.

I'm not much of a music video guy (music is meant to be heard, not seen) but this was a pretty interesting channel from time to time. They played some real obscure stuff!

It was sort of an idea who's time had passed two decades ago.

I'm hoping we could get AntennaTV or even RTV back. (My wife had just started getting into the CBC shows they were airing.)

All Sincliar stations dropped The Cool Music TV station WTWC NBC40 Tallahassee dropped The Cool Music TV also on 40.2. Im not sure what network will replace them maybe Antenna TV will be good one if Antenna TV and Sinclair can made a deal. We have to wait and see. Might be a good time for Antenna TV to look into this to add more stations as Antenna TV doesnt have alot of stations. Antenna TV own by Tribune.

I always thought that "The Cool TV" and "Country TV" were owned by Sinclair... or at least they were co-owned and Sinclair had a contract to carry them in all the markets they served. I don't know of any other station owner that carried either "The Cool TV" or "Country TV". So why is Country TV still on? This is confusing, but not enough to make me to a Google search to try to figure out what's going on. Maybe The Cool TV is just reformatting? Just about every comment I've seen about The Cool TV mentioned seeing something old and strange on the air (Like an old Joy Division video or the Butthole Surfers)... could they be trying to get a more modern music station together?

maybe 68.2 is picking up bounce tv since it is bombing on 6.2? the ad revenue is less than 10% of the operating budget and wbrc is really doing nothing to promote it.

68.2 seems a much better market match.

The Cool TV being off the air is not a Birmingham/Mobile/Tallahassee issue. Sinclair is up to something. Unless someone comes across a press release, I'd tend to believe it's temporary.
I really doubt they would kill off The Cool TV so the local affiliates could pick up random new DT networks in various markets. In fact, I think I hear more talk about The Cool TV than any of the other DT networks out there. Heck, with all the TV stations Sinclair owns in the Mobile market, they have never put up anything except Country, The Cool, and whatever that old music network was that shut down because they didn't have any E/I programming.... Unless you count the WFGX-DT1 MyNet/This TV hybrid station.

The timing of the disappearances of programming from the Cool Music Network (TheCoolTV) from the digital sub-channels of stations owned or operated by the Sinclair Broadcast Group makes finding more information about the disappearances difficult. I hope to find some more information from folks associated with the Sinclair Broadcast Group or the Cool Music Network after today (Labor Day).

I don't really know if this has anything to do with the Sinclair situation, but I looked around Cool TV's website for 2 minutes and found this quote. Nothing else seemed interesting except that every TV station list in the country puts the Pensacola and FWB stations in Mobile but Cool TV list WFGX as a Pensacola station and only lists cable companies in Florida that carry the sub. The website makes it appear the only Cool affiliate in Bama is WABM... The don't know Mobile is Alabama's second largest city/market? And that Pensacola and FWB are little towns compared to Mobile...

"Dear loyal fans of THECOOLTV in Milwaukee, Greenbay, Lansing, Boise, Palms Springs, Omaha and Tucson. As you know, THECOOLTV is currently off the air in your great cities due to our Affiliate Agreement expiration with the Local broadcast group. We are looking into other opportunities to return to the airwaves in your cities as soon as possible. Thanks for your concerns and support. Contact your local TV providers and tell them you want THECOOLTV!"

Also, it appears that if we were discussing this on the correct board, the Radio-info National TV board, they have a two page thread about it.

Apparently Cool had an affiliation agreement with Sinclair and Sinclair decided not to renew.. Cool may still have an agreement with Newport. It is not likely WJTC would pick up Cool as 44-2 at this time due to the Sinclair sales agreement, but depending on how long it takes to close on those agreements.... I assume it's possible. Cool also has a carriage agreement with Lin, so could Cool reappear as 10-2 so no one would be able to pick it up?

On a side note, WCTU-LD channel 46 has been carrying the "Global Christian Network" on 46-1 for years with 46-2,-3.-4 all running color test patterns. They have now added "The Word" to 46-3 and Punch TV to 46-4. 46-2 is just showing a slide with a water drop that says "off air".
Punch TV was showing amateur MMA Cage fights when I found the station. That is a definite stretch from GCN and The Word christian programming.

It's strange that WBQP-CA list The Word and Punch TV as networks they are affiliated with, but I can no longer pick up any signal from channel 12 and WBQP's DT's 4 or 5 sub-channels on 7-x have been off the air for years, but are still listed on the WBQP website. I wonder if WBQP is working on an leasing or purchasing WCTU? WCTU-LD has one hell of a low power signal for this market.. Along with the HSN LP, WCTU has one of the two strongest LP signals in Pensacola.

Why is BLAB-TV, WHBR 33-4 scrambled? The BLAB picture on WFBD 48 is nice and pretty but it's being squeezed into a tiny box in the center of the screen... It's almost unwatchable. If I zoom out to maximum zoom it still doesn't fill the screen, but it pixelates the video making it unwatchable.
Does Mobile have any low power or class A stations that cover the city carrying non-Christian/non-shopping/non-infomercial programming?

Newport dropped Cool TV across the board on July 30.

Do you not see WBQP-CD on 12 now? They were running that 7 signal without a license for a very long time and finally got the FCC to grant them a flash-cut on 12, which they then licensed. In theory, there should now be a digital signal on 12.

WHBR-TV no longer has digital sub-channel 33-4. As for the discussion about the Cool Music Network on the other message board, I was aware of that discussion before coming here.

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle. I thought my TV was automatically adding digital stations, just typed in 12.1 and scrolled down to DTV and there it is. They have the audio turned up really high, sounds like crap. Not sending out any PSIP or info for any of the channels. 12.3 is showing that same water drop with the words "no signal" that 46.2 is showing. None of the channels have any bugs in the corner, I don't know what networks they are carrying. 12.4 is old fuzzy B&W stuff, 12.2 is Punch TV (same feed on 46.4) and 12.1 is showing infomercials right now.

Trip, I know it's been years... but do you have any idea what was up with "WBQP-2" that ran on analog channel 8 for several years before the DT channel 7 appeared. WBQP-2 (WBQP-2 was what the bug in the corner said) was pretty much America-One 24/7. It had a better signal than WBQP-12 and it didn't cut out of programming for commercials every 30 minutes.

All I know about it is that it is the same license as what is now WRBD-LP.

And WRBD LP channel 8 stopped broadcasting shortly before the WBQP DT channel 7 appeared. WRBD now has a CP to go up on a tall tower in Robertsdale/Seminole (along with several other LP stations including one VHF channel 6 that applied for an analog license). What a waste, no one will be able to pick up an LD from that distance.
Before taking the WRBD calls, channel 8 was WPNS (PNS=airport code for Pensacola). As I recall, the WPNS-LP calls were moved to a station in Mobile (makes no sense) but the calls and Mobile station appear to have been deleted as far as I can tell.

You see, this appears to be the facts, but it makes no sense at all. Every now and then I try to figure it out... I got nothing. OCD can get to a person sometimes.

I think, should WRBD-LD ever make it on the air from that site, you will be pleasantly surprised at its performance.

LP TV stations have been getting CPs for the Baldwin county towers for 10-15 years, maybe longer. Not one has ever been built out.

I'm a little more impressed with the predicted coverage of Crestview's WGOX-LD license to cover that was granted last month.

Coverage is similar to full power WFBD and better than other local full powers WAWD and WPAN.

BTW Zach, have you noticed that most of the translators we've been watching made "some" progress in August?
