WABV?

Is WABV on the air anymore? The infamous PW claims he is not with the station anymore. Yet, the website still has his picture. I attempted to call the station and recieved a temporarily disconnected message.

As a former Station Manager of WABV in Abbeville, I could tell you of many of the opportunities and challenges at the station, community and region. WABV is silent at present. If someone wanted to buy the station, I am certain Mark Hellinger in Ga would gladly sell the station to them. It is located off of Highway 28 in the Abbeville city limits. At 1590, the signal is shallow at best. The old RCA transmitter would throw fireballs across the studio floor occassionally but I still love the station. I think it would still do well with a small staff dedicated to the community. Sadly, the community would not, or has chosen to not support it in the past. The key reason is a lack of on-air stability. The town is served by WZLA FM 92.9 in addition to numerous stations in Greenwood (14 miles away) and Anderson (29 miles away). A gospel or oldies format...oldies and beach format would be ideal. I have Mark's number and would be interested in a LMA on the station to restart it. I now have syndicated shows based in Myrtle Beach but believe my heart is still in that most perfect area of the state.
