Technically, it's CHR/Rhythmic...but 107.9 KHCK is now "Power 108."

Is hip hop rhythmic or pop rhythmic?

Drove through Waco today. The Beat faded out as soon as I passed the city limits, Power was still coming in very clear. I liked the music that The Beat was playing though.

KHCK certainly has better coverage of Waco with a centralized tower.

Yes, they do. And at last report 104.9's application to move to Mart hasn't been approved yet.

For The Beat, no 60dBu coverage of the city of Waco; for 107.9 city grade over all of Waco and most of McLennan County:
KWBT service area now: www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM1129792.html
KWBT service area proposed: www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM1368240.html
KHCK-FM service area: www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM594136.html

Advantage "Power 108," now and later on...

I also noticed something yesterday that has a bearing on any future upgrade plans for KWBT. Co-channel KHHG in Hamilton has applied for a change in their community of license and a slight increase in power. They're proposing to re-license to the town of Evant (south of Hamilton), running 6kW from a site about halfway between Evant and Gatesville.

There was a possibility that once KWBT's application to move from Mexia to Mart was approved, they could have applied for a revised transmitter site a little further west toward Waco. That's if Hamilton's 104.9 stayed at their presently licensed location. But if KHHG's Evant proposal is approved, it would basically lock The Beat into the location they specified on their pending application. In that scenario, under the FCC's minimum spacing requirements there would be only about 1.5 kilometers leeway between the two stations.

The predicted outcome, in my opinion, is that KHHG's application will be approved, as will KWBT's, and the Beat will still have inferior coverage of the Waco market.

And even more to come...KHCK-FM has applied this week to upgrade from a class A to a class C3

One other Waco note...the FCC database shows KLRK 92.9 has changed calls to KRMX a couple of days ago ("Mix" maybe?).

During some mild tropo the other night I caught 92.9 from Waco (about 100 miles) with this sweeper, "The Best Mix of Everything: Mix 92.9!"
