WACO sound back in 90's

Did any of you ever hear WACO Radio back in the 90's? I used to travel from Fort Worth to Austin on the bus back then, so I would listen to the radio through my headphones. The sound of that station was incredible because the separation was very wide, however the music sounded very clean. I've never heard another station come close accept for KNUE out of Tiler. Does anyone know what they were doing that made things sound so different?

You talking AM or FM? (I have to ask, since AM Stereo WAS still somewhat respected then.) I remember being peeved when they changed the FM from KHOO to WACO, going from AC to country. I believe that happened in the late 80s. KHOO relieved a lot of cross-counTY boredom on those long drives to TAMU in the mid-80s (yeah, Shannon was an Aggie, briefly...) It was one of the few stations I could listen to continuously between B/CS and Dallas (KWTX-FM was another.) I don't recall the sound being any better or worse than stations in DFW or Houston then, but I'll take your word for it.

You might try the Texas Radio Board.
