Waco's Beat on the move, if things fall into place

Back when 104.9 announced plans to move from Mexia toward Waco I mentioned that there was a small window of opportunity that might allow them to move a little further west. That was because of the placement of co-channel KHHT in Hamilton, but things changed a little. KHHT applied to move to Evant which would restrict further movement of the Mexia station. Some problems still were present including KWBT being able to deliver both a city-grade signal over their community of license (Mexia) and enough signal to serve Waco.

Now the "window" may be opened a little wider. It wasn't reported here but I noticed a while back that KWBT had applied to move to Bellmead, still as a Class A but with a tower much closer to Waco. Now comes word that KHHT, which incidentally is now co-owned by M&M Broadcsting, not only abandoned the planned move to Evant but has applied to vacate 104.9 by moving to 107.7.

The is an ambitious plan that just might work; if it's approved Hamilton gets to keep its station and "Waco's Beat" will get a fairly potent city-grade signal over Waco.

I also read on facebook that they moved their studios from downtown Waco to another spot.

A couple of corrections to my original post: the Hamilton station's call letters are KHHG. Also, the reference to KWBT providing a city-grade signal over Mexia was misleading and moreover, outdated for all practical purposes, since Mexia is likely out of the equation. What I failed to mention was that The Beat's present application to move to Bellmead supersedes a previous application to change their COL to Mart. Fortunately for M&M there's the non-commercial station KSUR 88.9 licensed to Mart, meaning that the town wouldn't be losing its only radio service (or more correctly, a second service it never got and likely won't). Sorry for any confusion.
