WADO shouts "¡Órale!"

Whatever happened to this supposed flip? The rumor about having to rebrand over the apparent trademark conflict seems to have become pretty dubious considering an imaging package for a station flip can normally be hammered out in a weekend when necessary.

As I also noted in the article, the brand was very close to Meruelo's "La Buena 97.1 HD2". Wouldn't be surprised if its being delayed for a reimaging. But yes, all the references to "Que Buena" coming today were removed.

So it's Qué Buena after all. Maybe the delay was due to WADO's sports contract ending at 11:59 p.m. March 31, and the Mexican format contract beginning April 1? Just a guess.

Shortly after 10 am, WADO abruptly switched from the Mexican programming (the nationally aired "El Feo la Mala y Bueno") to a health show which I believe they had been airing in the past.
We'll see if they also have other stuff during the day, such as some of the TUDN sports programs they had also been running prior to today. It wouldn't' be surprising if WADO also continues play by play coverage of local sports teams.

The health show is probably a rented program.

If it does flip tomorrow, it would not be the first NYC market station to do a real format change on April Fools Day. In 1974, 970 WWDJ (now WNYM) flipped from Top 40 to Christian programming, which turned out to be no joke.
I heard it happen in real time. It sure as hell sounded like an April Fool's Day stunt at the time. I recall thinking, as the day went on, that these guys really have committed to the stunt. It didn't really sink in until the next day that this was a "for real" format change.

I noticed the announcer saying "Nueva York" repeatedly, yet the station uses "New York" in its logo. Is the custom among New York Latinos to say "Nueva York" but render it as "New York" in writing?

WADO, in its final rating under the old format, received a .1 overall, and a paltry cume of around 45,000. That's slightly below the ratings for WXBK HD2 (New York's Country).
