I just noticed that the other week myself!
When did it happen?
Even though they're not outright saying it, WAEB sure is positioning themself as LV Conservative Radio instead of just Talk Radio.
Not that I have a problem with that. It's just interesting.

Fox is the hottest brand for news today. Look at the success of the Fox News Channel. CBS, NBC, ABC, and CNN are all second fiddle. I'd expect future detections to Fox from other big News/Talkers when their contracts allow.

This is keeping in mind that the biggest audience for tv cable news junkies would tend to be older & more conservative. To those non-conservatives, the Fox News image may be different as it is more openly opinionated than the other networks (even though apparently the radio updates aren't). I guess if WAEB wants to be conservative radio preaching to the choir as opposed to being the valley's source for news and talk for a general audience, then this is a good move for them.

Actually, it wasn't that long ago that CC inked a deal that would have FNR as their exclusive TOH news provider for their news/talkers. That is probably why you hear FNR on WHP as well as WAEB. Here in Worcester Twsp, since CC doesn't have a N/T in market, WNPV Lansdale has gone the way of FOX.<P ID="signature">______________

Not The Same
It's not the same CBS. The "piece" was done on 60 Minutes II, a television program produced by CBS News (which falls under CBS, the TV network division of Viacom). The so-called "CBS Radio Network" is part of Westwood One, another Viacom subsidiary, which produces network news programs under various brands including CBS, NBC, CNN, Westwood One and Metro. At one time, they also produced newscasts under the Fox name. For newscasts under the CBS name, they have the right to use audio from CBS News and some CBS News talent. Bob Schieffer (and before that Dan Rather) read all or part of an evening drive radio TOH newscast to promote the later TV news.

I said more openly opinionated, as in the editorilizing that goes on in prime time. The other networks may slant news, but not openly editorialize. Much of the programming on Fox is opinion, which is fine as long as people know that. The Dan Rather thing was one story, it didn't change my opinion because I always found Rather bourish & egotistical. I've put on MSNBC to find Pat Buchannan editorilizing, but that doesn't mean they are a conservative opinion station.
Getting back to radio news, my point is when I think of Fox News I have an image of hosts shouting down guests with opinions different from theirs, maybe entertaining tv, but it doesn't make me think of a credible news source for a TOH newscast, either. That's my personal perception. I prefer the TOH newscasts from AP that I don't think of with any particular slant. If given a preference, I'd like to see a station like WAEB have it's own news staff & just use network sound bites, but that's not happening anymore, not even on major market talk stations.

WNPV has gone to Fox news instead of the AP updates, added conservative talk, and basically tape & the same local newscast every hour all day long after morning drive, dropped live updates of news/weather during the day, a former great full service local station now sounds canned most of the time. I used to rely on them for news & information, I'm now looking for an alternate source as they left my presets when the AP went away.

Opinionated? Fox News is obviously a "welcome change" to the mainstream media that is obviously slanted to the "left." The American people recognize this and have made Fox the #1 news channel on cable. I disagree that it's "older" folks who have exclusively made Fox #1. The only thing missing on radio is commentary by Bill O'Reilly. Of course, that little station in Bethlehem carries his show.
