WAEB local news

WAEB AM tends to get great pleasure out of reporting negative occurrences at Musikfest. I even sensed a tinge of pleasure in the newscasters voice as he reported about the drunk in the porta potty and the incident with the two brothers. There was a conceited, arrogant, tone in the delivery which seemed to suggest some level of moral superiority. I did not hear any comments from the whiner Walsh, but I am sure he was in his glory as well.

WAEB lost its credibility as a news provider in the 1990s, in my opinion -- once it axed its 7 AM and 5 PM extended news programming.

I've lived in the Lehigh Valley for roughly 25 years, and it is very sad how far WAEB has fallen in that time as a radio station worth listening to.

Again in my opinion, WAEB is useful for the weather Q&A and the traffic reports. Not much else.

The only thing WAEB is any good for is the traffic reports. At least they make some effort in that department. WLEV's traffic is a joke. "That was John Mellencamp on WLEV! Time to look at the roads! Whelp! Roads lookin' clear! Here's Daughtry on 'LEV!" Meanwhile there's a 20 minute backup on 22.

::) :p They don't HAVE a news presence outside of Dan or whoever on Gunther's show. The remaining local updates are all done out of Harrisburg or Philly.
Only the traffic guy is there all day, and he goes home at 6:00.
When Gunther's gone, whenever that is, you'll hear Quinn/Rose or whoever's succeeded them at Talk104.7, or else Premiere-owned Bob&Tom if they're still around.

It is a shame about losing Dan at the top of the hour for local news. There is no reason for it in my opinion that makes any sense to anyone who lives in the Lehigh Valley. I would HATE to have Dan replaced by that guy, and I think some listeners are wondering if this is a sign of things to come, which would be a big mistake.

But I am just not in agreement about most of what is being said on this board.

If Dan had a bit of sarcasm in his voice reporting about a drunk in a porta potty.... well, that is what makes Dan great to listen to! I personally enjoy hearing that side of Dan on the radio. He does NOT have that tone during the whole morning program unless he is "sparring" with Gunther.

I do not remember an extended news format during the morning and evening, but I personally only want to hear just the headlines. If you want to hear the latest news in a slight bit more detail, turn on Channel 69 and you can hear the same local news stories looped every 10 minutes to you before you head into work.

I certainly do not agree that the only good thing about WAEB is the traffic reports. Let's face it. We do not live in Philly or New York. The traffic conditions most of the year are the same. There is rush hour and then there is not. The most important traffic news is if there is a major accident or snowfall. This happens only a few weeks a year on average.

Finally, how fortunate we are to still have local news and talk for 4 precious hours a day. Gunther and Dan are a great team and do a good job on both the local and national news.

Unfortunately the rigid format for the hours when there's no local content makes it very difficult for them to report major accidents or weather situations. One is stuck listening to the content (98% of which is not to my liking) until a stopset and then hope there's someone minding the store to provide an update.

Thankfully I can get WFMZ's traffic updates on my cell phone's web browser (though I wish they were available via SMS). That way I can avoid WAEB in the afternoons.
