WAEB relevant for local news?

WAEB has a TOH positioner that says something like “Where the Lehigh Valley gets its News First” but they seem to come very late with, or completely miss local stories that I would consider the most relevant. Today there was a major fire in Northampton county that headlined on channel 69, but got just casual mention on WAEB during the traffic report and banter with Gunther. I think commuters might like to know what was causing that huge plume of smoke that was visible for miles. Is it toxic? Was anyone killed? Any evacuations? Instead we were treated to a report about a state-run system that rates teachers based on student performance. IMO it’s a missed opportunity, but if you’re going to cede the local news presence to the TV stations (and smart phone apps by extension) why brand yourself as the place to go for news?

they are too busy sending traffic reports to harrisburg as cc harrisburg let it's reporting staff go and we hear the allentown folks tell us how the roads are. screw local news it's $$$$ or saving it so much for local ownership that cared back in the 60s 70s and 80s.

I am unable to listen to WAEB for any lenght of time because of the awful banter by Bobby Gunther Walsh and the hideous right wing talk nonsense. I try to listen to Coast To Coast at night for some true information but it is ruined by hearing Laura Kramer and BGW on various spots throughout the overnight.

WAEB is terrible for local news as are other stations. The only station that properly reports local news is WDIY.

Big mistaka-jaka if you tune 790 AM for news. All you get is gunther and a guy ripping and reading headlines. Nothing creative.
But that is clear channel's way.
clear channel owns about 6 or 8 stations in one particular market and they have zero, NOT ONE, news employee. Metro Traffic folks provide news on those stations.
clear channel, or cheap channel, allegedly violates its FCC licenses by not wholly providing service to their thousand communities, as required. Sad that Colin Powell's son, the then-FCC commissioner, let companies like clear channel own as many radio stations as they can buy. Small or no news staffs, voice-trackers, and more. How NOT to do radio, by cheap channel.
