WAEI drops WEEI feed for FoxSports

I can't imagine what they are thinking. To go from topical (focusing on Boston teams) to national, not to mention dropping people plugged into the New England sports scene to Fox 'talent'. Ugh. Otoh, this can only help WZON.

This is 97.1 WAEI-FM you're talking about, right? If it was 910, I could see that it would make sense, rather than having all the overlap.

Both have dropped 'EEI for Fox Sports (plus Maine sports still)

my question is: WHY? Blueberry payed big bucks for 'EEI...

I guess there are a lot of college football/basketball fans in the Bangor area? Seems like that's all Fox sports ever talks about, and I couldn't care less about college sports.

My sarcasm detector pinned at your first sentence.

Same here. Waaaay off my radar. I suspect we are not alone in that regard, which makes 'AEI dumping 'EEI for Fox all the more bizarre. What were they thinking? Or, put another way...

What? Were they thinking?

Somewhat related, but 96.3 WJJB/The Big JAB has dumped Sporting News for Fox as well, but they only carry FSR on weekends and nights (not counting Dan Patrick and Jim Rome which they've carried)

The WEEI simulcast only started last Sept didn't it? Dropped due to cost factor?
I think both stations used to be owned by Clear Channel which syndicates Fox Sports
radio as part of Premiere

You don't think Steve King's WZON is picking up the EEI shows (though they do their own AM drive and PM drive shows...)...?

This is all about money. Fox Sports costs nothing. WEEI costs thousands of dollars a month (5k-7k approx). I wouldn't be surprised if Atlantic Coast drops it in Portland as well. Neither one of these stations, WAEI or WPEI, have had any success selling advertising on them. They are loaded with PSA's or they just let the Boston commercials run. Also, neither one of them has generated any real significant ratings in the year + they've been on. Apparently, it's the same story going on in Keene, NH as well. I wouldn't be surprised, rather bet, that the WEEI network will disappear before the end of the year on stations that Entercom doesn't own. It's simply not economically worth it.

Funny to see True Grit so quick to bash another change in the Bangor market. For those who remember when Blueberry first put the WEEI network on...True Grit bashed the idea.

True Grit seems to be angry about radio in general...and always seems to "have all the answers".

Hmmm.

you could say that about 90% of the posts on this message board....just cut and paste this:

LoL Exactly. I don't know what I did to irritate this 'clickin' guy/girl, but he/she is not worth the time it would take to compose a long thoughtful reply, at least not tonite.

Sorry someone whizzed in your cornflakes, clickin.

Earlier today there was a statement on the WEEI press release page talking about the WAEI decision to drop EEI, but it is now gone. Did anyone cache it? It was up at about 3 pm today, and was a statement from Jason Wolfe.

Rumor is that WEEI is adding 2 stations in NH with Jeff Shapiro's new aquisitions (102.3FM Concord and 101.5FM Meredith). He is also solid in Keene NH with it although I hear he's struggling with sales.
I don't think they really care about Bangor... Portland might be another story if they bolt.
Fox is barter I beleive. It was a cost saving decision I'm sure.

It's all about money - what they're having to pay versus the fact that they are generating minimal revenue on it. They could very easily be losing money, net of total costs, on a monthly basis. If this was profitable, there would not be a "breach of contract".

Portland's the same story, except there JJ's stuck. He has a lock on the sports radio market and he's afraid to give it up for fear that someone will grab it despite losing money on it. He has the weakest sales operation in the market - by a lot - and until that changes, WEEI is a pair of cement shoes for him.

This morning (at least from 6:15 to 6:50) 'AEI was running Don Imus. Another format flip, or a satellite snafu? Either way, it's a big improvement over Stephen A. Smith.

they were running FSR tonight...so my guess is they want a different morning show...funny it'd be Imus because he's a national talk based program opposite sister station WVOM

Smith was back on at 6 this morning. Switched over to 'VOM for a few minutes and by 6:20 it was Imus. What's going on at Blueberry? Do they just not care about any of their stations that aren't WVOM?
