WAEI (Legacy Calls WABI) Towers Spotted On Cold Case Files

I was watching an episode of "Cold Case Files" and spotted a two self supporting tower AM array near a "Twin City Motel" in Brewer, ME. Looked up Brewer, ME and found it was next to Bangor. Looked up WABI on AM Query. Couldn't find it. Looked on Wikipedia and discovered the call letters had changed to WAEI. Back to AM Query and the USGS Map Link. Found it across the road from the Twin City Motel.

In what passes for my memory, WABI was on 910, and a full-fledged 5000 watt regional. Occasionally they'd be a sunset catch in Laurelton Queens (NYC) and sometimes at night.

I figured from the self supporting towers that it was an older station. For that reason I figured it was fulltime.

I knew WABI had two towers and they looked about the right height. I heard them a few years ago when they had a MOYL type format. I was surprised when I heard the call letters, as the null goes toward my location.

Anyone else spot AM arrays in TV shows and movies? I remember the BFA Horizontal FM bays in "Kindergarten Cop". I figured out the station. As I recall, it was on 103.7. Saw a "Rockford Files" where he drove past KGIL 1260, but there were no towers shown.

Another management group that needs a severe beating for dropping WABI (60 years +) just to mimick WEEI. Started with GE's Jack Welch (who my parents grew up with in Salem, Mass) would sell his mother down the river for a buck. He destroyed the very foundation of American broadcasting, NBC radio (he also did it to his first wife of 50 years) no loyalty to tradition, family or employees only $$$. There is a special place in hell waiting for him

Tell that to his stockholders. They might disagree.

I'm not saying your questioning his morals isn't right, just that under his helm, GE made a ton of money, and so did GE retirees, investers, and the majority of those associated with GE. One can argue that because of what Jack did to transform the company, GE has managed to remain viable despite its current leadership.

On Schroedinger Cat's question about arrays and media: It wasn't a tower array I spotted. And it wasn't even an AM station. But in the Howard Stern movie 'Private Parts'*, there was a building looking very much like my recall of it -- WRNW 107.1, licensed to Briarcliff Manor, up the Hudson from NYC.

At least the exterior of the building looked familiar. Decades ago I'd applied there for work once. Nowadays the station is The Peak, WXPK.

* Was never a Stern fan ; was hardly ever awake at that hour anyway. Never got into Imus' stuff ; same reason. But Stern did a pretty good acting job. 2 1/2 stars I'd give it. And the guy who played 'Imus' stole that scene like crazy.
Primarily, though, the pretty Mary McCormack (who played a shuttle pilot in Deep Impact) stole the movie, lol.
