WAEZ NUMBERS FINALLY UP

S

Glad to see that Gary has made a difference at Electric.
Maybe a hint of the old spark is coming back. And before
some wisenhymer decides to put in his or her 2 cents, let me
say that Electric went up because of hard work. NOT because
someone else sucked wind (although it DOES look like WXIS is
in - and has been in - the "not so hot" category.)
By the way, WXBQ seems to be kickin' country butt!
(Yes, thank you Captain Obvious!)

Mr. SpinDoctor:

Yes, it is good to see their numbers up. And yes, it was due to hard work. I can hear the difference on the air. Izzy and Ginger are sounding wonderful. I can't turn my radio off while they are on. But of course I am a radio junkie, and have to change dial positions every quarter hour to see what's happening.

All the best mi compadre

I have to be honest- I would not listen to an AC or a Hot AC station if you paid me, so the fall and rise of WAEZ means little to me.

What I think is interesting is-

You mentioned WXIS. I have to agree. They simply do not know what they are doing there- and I found it interesting that WEMB couldn't even hit a 0.7 or whatever.

WXBQ- Am I the only one who thinks by and large they are the only contemporary country station in the market (how long has it been since US 99 was on the air, anyway)- Greeneville notwithstanding?

I mean, how difficult is it to program country music to this market? They do so well because they have the format people want to hear and they have no competition.

What I'm most interested in is, as always, the talk wars.

WJCW has now pulled ahead of WFHG while Power Talk is putting up it's best numbers ever.

Here's my speculation-

A- The Braves are on the air-

B- For whatever reason the signal of WFHG on FM is just dreadful. I keep getting it drowned out by some rap music station.

C- Meade is still the kick-ass host of the market- which may not say that much for the market but still. Limbaugh is still the one everyone wants to listen to.

Quaintance is still talking over everyone's head and really doesn't relate to anyone. Bernier is- for all his top-notch guests and such- stupid. And to not carry Sean Hanitty for all three hours is a crime!

Jody Lee- meanwhile- is doing a nice job. WPWT actually has some decent mid-day programming- Dave Ramsey- Glenn Beck.

Their morning show could use some work. I remember when Harry Potter came out and the caller and host- at 7:55 in the morning mind you- seemed to believe that Harry Potter was preventing kids from reading the bible.

ONLY IN EAST TENNESSEE!!!!

Sir Charlie O da Horse,
I think it's interesting to see that, eventhough Electric is
a station that CAN be a strange mix of music, Gary Blake is
(hopefully) beginning to rescue it from the Bruce Clark era.
Gary had some hateful postings in this forum and was tauted as
a little less than dryer lint and yet he's getting results.
Just interesting...

As far as WXIS, I think that they need one thing and one thing only.
It's called DIRECTION!
I was there in 95 & 96 and the station was making decent numbers.
Because of me? No, that's not what I'm saying. But it was PRE-
Electric and offered an edgy CHR with a rhythmic tainting.

WEMB - look folks I am a Christian too, but your station is suffering
horribly. You need to make a decision because the sister ststation won't
be able to support you much longer with the terrible numbers they are
making. The combination of both stations can barely reach a 3!

WXBQ - Yer right, no competition but still a good product.

WTFM - Um, other then Steve Mann - it's bland and always has been.

WQUT - Dropped a tad kids, are ya tired of the same library yet?
Lynard Skynard had more than 3 songs, right? Just checking.
Holy crap did you hear the new Bob Segar? Yeah, me neither.
How about the latest AC/D.... ah forget it, you get my point.
Off to anger management, GET OUT OF MY WAY!
The Spindoctor

Charlie H. keep pluggin away!
Izzy, Ginger you too!
Steve Mann, I have the 50 bucks I owe you to keep quiet about the
Girls Gone Mild video.

Your points are well made. Gary can and will get results there at Electric as long as he continues to gain the respect of his crew, and to forge ahead with the great talent pool he has.

From the folks I have spoken with, Bruce Clark is out of any operational control over Electric, but he is still in the building. I knew him years ago, and trust me. He is a Weasel, and as such will ingrain himself in the good graces of Pete, and will once again get control of some part of the process. It's just his nature. BBC folks...GET HIM OUT OF THE BUILDING...somehow!

The numbers for Bruce's play toy Z-Rock were stupendously low. Wake up and smell the roses. The man has a great future as a funeral director.

Hey SpinDoctor....let's you and I talk to the folks at XIS and see if they will LMA it to us. We go now kemosabe and kick some ass.

Gary Blake's not a bad guy or program director, so whatever success Electric gets is well earned (sorry for the earlier post). As far as the bunny is concerned, FM94 has a far better music mix...'XBQ just has the name and the reputation. I don't believe they've ever thought of FM94 as competition, and that's a shame. I truly believe that if FM94 had some better ownership than HVBC, and if they truly promoted, Pete would have to hitch up his Dickies and try a little harder.

where is Travis Mathis aka "Billy Cage",or "Clint Kelly". Known by a select few
as Forrest Gump. run Forrest run! Run fast! Are you guys over the age of twelve?
Electric has only had one PD:Gary Blake. Tied up and gagged in some BBC closet
since 95'. Niniger had Gary's voice appear in other markets by way of a DSL
line. He was at the helm during the terrible era.....dare I say this............Sly & Vickie. Oh well so much for history....Remember, history
sometimes repeats itself.....

The "terrible era" can be expanded to included Vicki and anybody. She was out of control, and she brought down anyone who worked with her, no matter how good they were on their own.

Well guys you know how it is..Pete liked her. So once he got that in his head, it was a matter of "let's see who works best with her on the air!" Can you believe that one? ..her with no experience. Well of course...no one did!

Part of the terrible era is back at the BBC...Sly, now known as Gunner Jackson on 'XBQ. You think Pete liked Vickie? At least Vickie had the smarts not to come back. And how long will it be before Gunner flies the coop again? Inquiring minds want to know.

Is this the same Gunner that went by Ozzie on 'TFM back in the
early 90's?
Just curious.

Yes, HE's BACK!! Heard him on XBQ the other day. Wasn't too impressed

CH

I knew the guy back around 89-90 and he seemed to do
great work, what happened? Is he a glutton for punishment in the
Tri-Cities?
Charley H, my generic email is [email protected]
send me an email so I can converse about the wonderful market
you're in and other stuff.
