WAFC.....THE TRUE OLDIES CHANNEL

Has anyone had a chance to listen to WAFC 590 am since they changed formats??? Scott Shannon does a great job with his satillite service. There doing a sixties weekend and I've heard songs I have not heard for years. WAFC's signal is good in Ft Lauderdale..Not bad for 900+ watts. The True Oldies Channel is also on WJBW 1000am out of Jupiter.Tragic 102.7 should pay attention to the music,,since there ratings continue to go down.

Wow. I was not aware of this. Love these boards. Thanks for that heads up. I will definitely make 590 one of my car settings. Speaking of music not heard of in years, I am hooked on the Music Choice cable service. Their 70's and 60's channels are fantatic, lots of "wow" moments. Love when radio, in any form, does that to me. Exciting.

Not just WAFC.....but if you are anywhere from Homestead south, you have 96.9 WKEZ Tavernier (and further down in the Keys, WGMX 94.3 Marathon & WKEY-FM 93.5 Key West, thereby serving all the Keys on FM) with the same format.

As far as Majic, I don't care for their updating of the music; however, they have to satisfy the advertisers who wanna reach the same demo as they have done over the last 25 years. "Oldies" includes 80s now, and 50s and pre-Beatles 60s are gone there pretty much.

I remember when Mindy Lang was young & working at WVCG 1080 w/ Ned Powers at a time when they briefly did 50s/60s oldies (this was 1982-83). Now they are playing stuff that came out after her stint there! Time marches on.

CD, I think WAFC has an FM translator in Clewiston. A few weeks ago, I drove to Ft. Myers and was shocked when I heard it. For years, I was able to reliably pick up 99.5 WAFC, when it was a Country station. If I am remembering correctly, the translator is on 100.5.

You are correct, sir. In fact, when the 100.5 was Mexican Radio Fiesta, it was caught in Massachusetts on E-skip 2 years back. They pack a punch for 250 w....it helps being on the sparse 100.5 as well.

Not good over here on the west coast due to a powerful Cuban on 590. One day they were off and WAFC came in to Naples like a local. Amazingly good for the wattage!

I do like the TOC. Sorry it's not here on this coast.

I was always a big oldies fan. Growing up the top 40 station we all listened to in Buffalo would go oldies for about a week around New Years.

Then I worked at WAXY and we had Drake's "Classic Gold". It was pre-Beatles for awhile and a real Rock & Roll education. There were a few songs I learned while there like "Poor Jenny" by The Everly Brothers. Somehow I had never heard that one till WAXY.

Before WAXY WEDR had a nightly show called "The Wax Museum" that was also very good. This was all long before Mindy Lang and oldies on WVCG.

That Cuban broadcaster on 590 goes way back to before la revolucion.
We were in Cape Coral a few years back and were able to pull a nice listenable signal in from 640 in West Palm Beach by carefully orienting a table radio to null the 640 in Havana. CD or DE could correct me, but we believe the Cuban 590 is from either Havana or Santa Clara.

We remember when they carried "Hit Parade", perhaps the same show.
From Gainesville, we could pull in WPDQ-FM 96.9 Jacksonville and WDIZ 100.3 Orlando, both carrying the more current but otherwise identical, "Solid Gold Rock and Roll".

We believe that was the same Ray Kassis who went on to succeed in the Christian radio and TV business.
Bill Stedman, host of "Ed Rivers Radio", never actually called himself that on the air and now programs or manages Magic 102.7.

Their website lists these affiliates in thirty three states including three in the Florida Keys and it appears to be up to date.

If you want to hear an interesting oldies format log onto americanpopradio.com (its the web addresss for KMCQ Seattle)= I've heard songs on that station that I haven't heard in years. Also, they have a 3 hour show Saturday evenings (6:00 PT) called the 10,000 oldies show, hosted by Ted Alexander, the DJ who allegedly was the first to play Steam's hit Na Na Hey Hey
Have fun. It will be interesting to hear your opinion of this station.

It appears the WJBW 1000am in Jupiter has dropped the TOC.They seem to be airing foreign lanquage programming. I couldn't tell what it was because reception is very poor in Ft.Lauderdale. On Sunday I heard Scott mention on WAFG that they were no longer on the Jupiter station.

Been listening to them on and off for a few days now. The AM signal just booms into the Treasure Coast (Port St Lucie/Stuart/Fort Pierce).

Also, there's a local morning show (male/female team, I think), but haven't heard enough to identify who they are. Anybody know?

Mike Moore is the mans name..ain't sure the female is......They do have a super signal during the daytime Not bad for 940 watts.. .I was driving down Federal Hwy Thurs to Hollywood....great signal.. very little interferance. I live near Commercial Blvd and 95...great signal on my little GE super radio..and connected an AM antenna to the stereo and comes in great..I love WAFC.
