wafg ft lauderdale sold?

3 kw stick with translators. belonged to coral ridge presbyterian chuch. heritage station...wish the best for them. who bought them? i hope they keep it live and local.

I wanna know about this too. They were controlling WKZG 88.3 in Key West and also the new WMRG 88.7 Key Colony Beach (Marathon).

When something like this happens it makes you wonder. Is radio too expensive to operate and are there more cost effective ways like the internet to get your message out? John Corrigan who once worked at WFTL/WGLO was one of the key people that made WAFG happen back when it first went on the air. Rumor has it they started out with the old Gates FM-10B transmitter that came from the old WAXY-FM.

An engineer whos name escapes me, but with whom I worked at WINZ, warned me to never install or maintain a church station without something up front. That was his experience with D. James's outfit.

An engineer with APMG told me the reason WKPC can not increase their facility is because of this third adjacency.
Grace FM and both of CSF's southeast Florida stations could all benefit by accepting some mutual QRM which would only be QRM on paper and on any vacuum tube FM receivers with broad AFC's that are still in use.

I heard that WAFG was sold, but cannot verify the information. Is there anything to verify if this is true? Why was it sold and who bought it?

Here's a bit o' trivia....

WAFG ID'd at 3pm today as "WAFG Ft. Lauderdale & W295AN Marathon." That MIGHT be a clue, because WMRG 88.7 serves about the same area as W295AN does; W295AN (106.9) has been off and on for 2-3 years.

Otherwise, I'm clueless.

If it was indeed sold, I bet it was for the following reason: return on the dollar. It was no longer cost effective for them to keep -- especially a not-for-profit organization. They could sell the station and invest the money in other things the church or school needed.

I'm actually surprised that a station like WKPX is still operating. How many young people (high school students) today want to go into radio? It would be like someone in my generation growing up and wanting to be a farmer. Yeah, people it do it. It's an okay career, but nobody was doing that anymore. Radio and newspapers are dead. Television will also be soon once on-demand really hits it big. Comcast is now promoting you can watch entire old series shows from their on-demand. Once Warner Brothers or Sony come to a deal with Netflix or Comcast to distrubte new shows like that rather than over-the-air, TV, as we know it, will also be done.
Yes. Radio, "newspapers" and TV will still be around, but I'm not sure what it will evolve into.

I'm not so sure if this story is true.

I listen to WAFG, and from what I hear, they have plans for which you can e-mail somebody there---I was not listening intently, but from the future ambition(s) that they mention, it doesn't sound like they are going anywhere soon.

I've been wrong before though.

WKPX is owned by the Broward County School Board and airs all of their meetings, plus the station is leased out to NSU all night every night.

Yes,WAFG has been sold to a North Carolina religious organization..Closing should be in 4-6 weeks according to Dolores, there General Manager. She will be out of a job once it closes.

Application finally filed with the FCC..Sale to Bible Broadcasting Network for 2 million includes a CP for 91.9 in Eastpoint, Fl, WAFG Fort Lauderdale, WKZG in Key West and silent WMRG in Key Colony Beach.

How do they feel about third adjacency short spacing?

Dunno...any different than in 1974 when WAFG signed on? :) I suppose 90.3's class-A-only allocation played a part....and I'd think 89.7 transmitting from Princeton did as well.

Actually the FM class designations mean next to nothing in the reserved band.
Station power and height are determined by signal overlaps only.
It is done as with AM stations.
Also, there was a real channel six back then which all reserved band stations had to protect.

BBN....great!

Really? Here in the BBN headquarters city I don't know anyone who listens to it. The station here (AM & FM) never showed much in the ratings. Maybe there is too much competition from Contemporary Christian stations. BBN is very "old school".

John Corrigan did a lot of work for WAFG on the announcing side to get things going back when the station started. He was a very nice man who I worked with at WFTL. John had a classic deep rich voice and knew how to use it.

I think we could use old-school Christian radio here. I know that isn't politically correct, but that's how I feel. True, it'll likely be 100% off the bird, but God's Word works wherever one is located.

I know we have our detractors here on this board. But again, that's how I feel.

Being a classical music buf(f?), I will put a good word in for Moody's, Majesty Radio, wish WRMB would go digital and put Majesty on a sub-channel.

With the market already having WAYF for "CCM" (I know way leans Hot AC but is close enough to a CCM station) I can see why WAFG was sold to someone like BBN .. plus it will be real cheap for BBN to run.. plug in a satellite receiver and lock the door.
