WAGA is #1 in January for first time..

...in, apparently, a very long time.

WAGA's 25-54 and 18-34 beat WSB and WXIA by a decent margin.

This is not specifically in news, rather overall.

God bless Idol, 24 and NFC football if you work at WAGA!

Will be interesting now that they have college football in the fall..

WSB-TV is beginning to fall apart

With a management change occuring at WSB-TV this weekend, anchors set to leave, and the station starting to take a gigantic leap into the 21st Century, it looks like WSB-TV will have to join the roller coaster ride of flip-flop ratings that 99% of other TV stations across the country face.

In other words, the good ole days of old fashioned tradition at WSB-TV is OVER!!!

Expect a calvacade of major changes in the next couple of years. If Cox does not do things right, and ABC goes into the hole again, WSB-TV could be singing the 3rd place blues (WXIA will start beating them).

Re: WSB-TV is beginning to fall apart

I wouldnt be playing a dirge just yet. ABC is the strongest network and WSB's news still kicks the crap out of the others.

I do agree that their news "look" and creativity is the weakest of the four. Once Monica and John hang em up, it becomes a dogfight. Until then, they'll still win every book.

I think CBS is still number one, although not in the 18-49
demographic. However, the management change at Channel 2
is due to Greg Stone's decision to retire, not because of
ratings problems. And did Channel 5 come in first outside
primetime? Meantime, I agree: Channel 2 is still going to
be first in news, maybe even after Monica and John are gone.

Monica and John (lap dog) . . . A reason not to watch WSB TV news . . .

You really think WGCL is better?

In terms of graphics, look and the set, I absolutely do. WSB, as has been noted, hasnt made an update in years. Who can blame them?

Now, I will say, that every piece of field footage than ends up on WSB's air is consistently clean. Same with WAGA.

WGCL is still sending photogs out with prosumer gear and it shows.

Ch 11, by far, has the best picture in town! And it has been that way for years...Ch 2 and 5, technically, are just pathetic.
WGCL is a joke, technically and content.
WSB, as the old saying goes, could run a test pattern and still get a 20 share!

Gotta disagree with you there. WXIA's field shots dont compare with WAGA's. XIA is shooting a middle-of-the-line DVC-Pro format (with not nearly the bandwidth) and WAGA is shooting a full-blown DNW-9 series Beta SX format. You put the same talking head next to each other and WAGA's would blow XIA's away. The resolution isnt even close. Even XIA's photogs will tell you this.

WSB's field acquisition is better than XIA's as well.

It's the old "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality, which has worked well for them for years. All of WSB's newscasts are consistant in tone and coverage...doesn't matter who anchors it.

I was just in Atlanta this past weekend, first time in about 10 years that I was there for any length of time. It's amazing how little they have changed in that time. When I was last there, I think they had just moved into their new studios and the news set was pretty new. 10-odd years on, its really showing its age. The duratran cityscape needs to be changed out *badly* as the colors look very faded on screen.

Still, even with what little I was able to watch while in town, the consistency (as I noted above) is still there. (side note: I don't particularly like weekend meteorologist Brad Nitz...comes across kinda goofy to me. Missed David Chandley on the weekends.)

WXIA looks excellent on-screen, though I thought the graphical elements look kinda weak - especially the lower-3rds. It needs a new font, as it does not stand out on-screen.

Didn't watch much WGCL or WAGA...maybe next time.

I don't believe they have any college football besides the BCS which of course is the first few days of January!!

Re: WSB-TV is beginning to fall apart

Monica and John have been there forever, but both are on the wrong side of 40, actually 50. I don't get to see ATL newscasts as often as CLT, but I don't see their direct replacements in place.

Wes Sarginson and Brenda Wood aren't exactly spring chickens either.<P ID="signature">______________
