WAGA not airing Peachtree Road Race?

For the first time in many years, it looks like the Peachtree Road Race will go without TV coverage. It looks like WAGA/Fox 5 will not televise the race this year.

The Comcast program guide lists normal programming, which includes WAGA's weekend morning newscast from 6-8:30 AM. I also have not seen any promos for the race this year.

If this is the case, I suspect the costs in putting on the production, especially in a down economy, may be the reason.

This comes just a couple of years after WSB-TV discontinued their 4th of July Parade due to costs, leaving the City of Atlanta without a proper 4th of July Parade.

WOW, I've been so busy as of late that I didn't even notice the lack of promos. That is crazy, but in this economy it's difficult even for the most profitable (WSB-TV) to produce much local programming if at all. WAGA may do occasional updates of parade Sunday morning, but likely go with the usual newscasts

Hasn't 11 Alive aired a fireworks show on the evening of
the Fourth in the past? What's the status of that this year?

WXIA will air the fireworks from Centennial Olympic Park at 9 PM. (NBC's coverage of the Macy's fireworks from New York will air live on sister WATL). WSB-TV will air the Lenox Square fireworks live at 9 PM.
