At 12:03 AM 04/21/2007 105.3 is WNOW FM in espanol. Get me the taco sauce!! I'm sure people in Gaffney are pleased! :'( Davidson media and the enchalada factory!

I'm impressed! It's so good when companies like Radio One and Davidson Media specialize in one format. It's so much easier to do that rather than go through all the trouble of filling an actual format need in a market.

I guess those (12+) 1.4 shares WGSP and WNOW pull were just too tempting! ::)

I would have like to have caught the flip...I bet Raymond Parker has turned over in his grave today--his will basically stated that WAGI should not leave Cherokee County.

I guess 97.3 WKBC is about the only 100kw FM remaining in a small town in our neck of the woods now.

But apparently off the air on Sunday morning 4/22/07. I've checked several times in last hour (its now 8:45) and no trace of a signal. In any event, I wish WNOW luck--Charlotte Hispanics need a good strong radio voice.

I remember listening to WAGI late last year on a Sunday morning when, during the Sunday morning religious programming staple, I heard... an infomercial. Pretty good sign that this change would be happening sooner or later...

If turning Spanish it may as well go dark as far as I am concerned.

This might be the process of moving the transmitter to Gastonia, but I could be wrong...

btw Thanks for the clip of the flip. Would you happen to have anything bigger than just 30 seconds? Would have liked to hear the final ten minutes of WAGI, no matter how automated it was... Maybe even the "spot" they ran informing of the flip (as mentioned in the article)... Also, does anyone have any old Country Earl airchecks? Anyone? Robyn?

THANK GOD IT FLIPPED! IM GLAD THAT THERE IS A SPANISH RADIO STATION IN THE MARKET NOW, wheww.

I noticed that they were off Saturday morning until a little after 0700. My guess is since WNOW is daytime only no one was on duty.

It will be some time I think before they move the transmitter to Crowders. They are planning to use the same antenna as WBAV. The new antenna will be installed along with WBAV's IBOC rig. They also have a lack of space in the transmitter room.

Oh! Give them time.

I understand they were off the air for a bit to do work on the transmitter, they were back at 100% when back on!

Sorry Foe Paw, I've just learned about the flip myself on this board and passed it on to the SC Board. Kinda sad that I've missed out on the promos about the flip myself, but that's the unpredictable nature of the business.

It looks like they're splitting the simulcast already. According to the Observer 105.3 will be more a more music intensive Regional Mexican format, while 1030 will go tropical and keep the morning show.

The paper also says 102.3 will be moving its antenna closer in for a better Charlotte reception.

Considering how well the AM's have done in past books, I can't wait to see how this translates over to the FM band.

Re: WNOW Splits Simulcast; AM and FM Get Separate Programming

I found the article. Somehow I ran out of time the pevious Saturday. When I was in college I started looking at the previous week's papers on Saturday just to see what I wanted to keep.

The transaction was filed yesterday...I just noticed. The price is $22M for both WAGI and WEAC. Wow, that's a lot of money.
