WAGL

I still do my daily scan of AM and have had a hard time receiving WAGL in Richland county. I usually am able to pick them up. Are they having any issues or is it on my end?

I'm surprised since they're 50,000 watts.

Anyone know the story with WBSC? This is the second year I haven't picked them up on the way to the beach, though their old music format is on WCRE. Not that it's worth hearing.

My earlier cooments about a fire in the phasor were for WBSC Bennettsville. It's gone now as the FCC has deleted the license recently. So sad...

On a recent Sunday afternoon, I was pulling in WAGL all the way down I-95 to I-4 into Orlando. A local announcer giving lengthy NFL updates during the MOYL format. I stayed with it the entire trip because I enjoyed hearing a live, local guy on a Sunday on AM radio. Pretty impressed with the signal reach too, even in the early afternoon.

You're not actually referring to MOYL as in the former (or possibly current for some of them) home of Gary Owens, Wink Martindale and Peter Marshall, are you?

I suppose it is the "Music of Your Life" Format. It may be called something else now. Oddly enough, I found it rather relaxing on a long drive.

I heard somewhere that what this station does is actually oldies. I haven't tried it myself.

Since I live seventeen miles from their 50KW transmitter, this is one of my AM presets.

WAGL uses the MOYL format but their music ranges from fifties rock oldies and "Hit Parade" favorites to light rock and country of the sixties and seventies. It is not unusual to hear Patti Page, Perry Como, Gary Lewis & the Playboys, Patsy Cline and Charlie Rich during the same hour.

Sundays feature gospel music up until mid afternoon, then MOYL until signoff.

Sounds a lot like America's Best Music. Except I don't remember the last time I heard Patti Page.

I mentioned WBSC earlier. Is it possible that with WBSC off the air, WAGL could get a signal boost in that direction?

It's a shame I don't get to try WAGL on the way to the beach but the AM radio in my car isn't that good, and I have other options. I could hear WAVO when they first upgraded their signal. I had a button for 1150 because Burlington had a Music of Your Life station there. Although more often than not that station was doing talk, or beach music.

With the car I have now I can't hear WAVO. Wadesboro has a station that plays easy listening when I'm passing through on the way to the beach. North of there, I had a button set for Life 103.1 in Sanford and discovered it was listenable a lot of the time. It was Timeless Favorites and now does the same kind of music locally. East of there, I wait for WIOZ to get clear. I used to get Easy 105.9 in some areas before a Florence rap station signed on at 105.9.
