WAGR-FM Lexington gets C3 / 25kW upgrade approval

Hey all -

WAGR-FM (102.5) in Lexington got a construction permit today to go to 25kW ND from their current tower. The coverage into north Jackson should improve ever so slightly, but they should get in very well in Greenwood now. They had a C3 CP in hand a few years ago but let it expire. They do plan to build out this one though.

Kinda like the tree falling in the forest analogy.Gee,some signal in North Jackson and Greenwood,a horrible radio market.Sounds like the power company will be the main beneficiary.Maybe the value will increase some and they might try to unload it.

While I'm an advocate of all stations maximizing their signal, especially in light of the ever-increasing challenge to reception from an ever-increasing background of electronic "crud" (computers, rf lights, cat-5 wiring, wi-fi, BPL, the list goes on...), I wonder how the signal slightly increasing at Jackson translates into a great signal at Greenwood? A quick look at my topo analysis software says the 70 dBu city-grade contour moves from about 11 to 16 miles out from the tower -- but yet Greenwood remains some 25 miles from the tower.

Just wonderin'...

Doctor -

Surely you're aware that there are other, more accepted, FM propagation methods out there. The curves contour is the least reflective of true coverage of them all. It just happens to be the easiest map model to show someone in a sales presentation. Both Point-to-Point and Longley-Rice models (which are far more accurate), show Greenwood covered in the 67-75 dBu range.

Longley-Rice ,great point casual observer and so true. But considering the facility and location kinda moot in a way.sticking with my previous post.Hope all is well your way since the freq change.REAL good market you serve.congrats..

The expected coverage on the FCC site shows that Greenwood will be bisected by the station's 60 dBu. The 70 dBu comes nowhere near.

I certainly don't want to be a nay-sayer, but the signal will suffer from time-to-time, especially in the Spring and Fall when ducting is running (Hello, Ellisville!). Heck, I used to work at a station where we occasionally got grief inside our 70 dBu (in Jackson). Annoying hearing interference in your headphones some mornings.

Buy, hey... they'll BLOW into Tchula!

I wish them the best, though. Congrats.

We all know what an untapped gold mine Tchula is.

How is the Tchula station doing now? I haven't been down to catch it since the format change.

Obviously I've got no insider info but from a listener standpoint, they have a great variety of classic rock. It's one of the very very few stations that gets me off the XM. The audio is nice & clean, too. (Wish I could say the same for WABG-AM.)

I've heard exactly ONE commercial, though, over a few hours listening time. Make of that what you will. ::)

Would it happen to be the country station out of Ruston, LA interfering with 107.5 in Jackson? I remember not too long after WKXI ended up on 107.5, the Ruston station came in so strong one morning, I thought WKXI changed to country.

They are all over the map a bit. I never thought of "This Is the Time" by Billy Joel to be a classic rock song, but they have played it. The audio is rather nice and clean; definitely one of the best (if not the best) in the Delta.
