Probably not a lot of interest here, but doesn't it seem like they have been off the air A LOT? I'm just back in town and heard that the new board might be on the crazy side of nutty.

I'm out of the market, but I remember 30 years or so ago they created a lot of controversy with whatever programming they were running at the time. Is that still the case or have they joined 'the establishment'?

If by establishment, you mean corrupt, then that would be WAIF.
I realize it's Community Radio, but this "board" has done things that I simply can't believe they get away with.
Many instances of misplaced pledge money that shows up after yearly voting to keep old board members in place.
Members forced to vote for bylaws without fully disclosing what the bylaws are...They are simply told "these laws are good, you need to vote these in".
Shows pulled and jocks banned for trying to change a corrupt board.
The list just goes on and on.

Not to mention that yes, they have been off the air A LOT. However, when the powers that be are contacted and it's not convenient for someone to come and fix it...they are simply told to close up shop and go home.

The rumor for years is that all the programming will be thrown aside for a total gospel format, however there may still be few bylaws still in place that will prevent them from doing it.

So..long story short, why they haven't been investigated by the FCC or any outside agency to make sure the "trust" is being handled properly, lord only knows.

I'm wondering if there are transmitter problems, the staff notwithstanding. Some months ago - seems like 6 or so - their signal was overmodulated and was stepping on adjacent frequencies within about five miles of the transmitter location. If they cook the transmitter through inattention, their governance will be a secondary issue.

Who handles engineering at WAIF?

I don't think the last three guys who did engineering for WAIF were treated well at all.
The position of chief engineer paid one dollar per year.
Also, I belive there have been many ego conflicts with people trying to play power grabs
on the license.
That is why it is now licensed to The Real Stepchild Radio instead of Stepchild Radio.

The frequency should go fulltime to WJVS. At least they are FCC compliant. These problems have been on going back to at least 1982. Ridiculous.

I haven't heard WJVS on the air lately. Not sure if Great Oaks has the station on the air or not. Their was talk several years ago, that WAIF would go 24hrs all year replacing WJVS.
