Doesn't Bangor Have Z 107.3?
chuckfoster said:Backtracks 90s has been running on WBZN for about 4 years. I think the 80s vers was on WWBX. Seacrest was replaced by another countdown show last summer.

Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 was pulled a few years back by the syndicator when they started using him mornings on WWBX. Possibly they planned to do the same before the switch to sports on 97.1? I think we repeat Backtrax 12 AM Mondays. Me? If you check the stream at www.wbzn-fm.com I may be there 6-12 M-F.

You're a teenager playing at radio.. and alot of people who post here, have either been affected by the budget cuts, and are out of jobs or have lost good friends, and coworkers who are currently unemployed. So I'm sorry that the radio stations aren't playing your type of music, that they don't pitch, that they don't do this or that, or for you, that there isn't a second or third or fourth CHR in Bangor. You get to go home to Mom and Dad and have a nice dinner, while many are worried about where they're going to get their next paycheck, or if their paycheck is going to be coming in the weeks ahead. So... please a little dose of reality.
Sorry... had to get it off my chest... we'll see how long the post stays.. but I feel much better now... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Curb said:Benwnn91...you have SO much to learn. I've been involved with students at UMO for years. CHR is NOT the top choice. Alternative rock and classic rock are the big winners. A good majority of UMO students don't even listen to radio. Take a drive thru campus any day and you'll see most students hooked up to ipods. I agree with popman...you really need to stop your endless moaning about what YOU want in radio. Until you work in the industry, you won't ever get it.
NHRadio said:As an advisor to a campus station, Curb is 100% right. Alternative and classic rock are big, with R&b/hiphop coming in a distant third. CHR is way down there with country in popularity.
Benwnn's post about a CHR being more profitable than the sports simulcast is just....laughable. If you're going to make statements like that, have at least something to support it.

What popman said. It's a bit difficult for many of us, either recently let go, or wondering if we'll have a job tomorrow, to feel sorry for you because you only have one CHR to listen to in the Bangor market.
elocut6 said:In addition to that, who listens to CHR? 14 year olds. 14 year olds aren't out working to make and spend money. This is a business driven by ad revenue. It's hard to convince advertisers to buy slots on a CHR, when the listeners have no means but their parents to support them. What are the parents listening to? Rock, AC and Talk.
elocut6 said:Why is all of radio in a slump? The internet, more specifically Google. The lights stay on because of ad revenue. If businesses don't think that they have to advertise because their services can just be Googled, that's money out of the station's bottom line.
You also have the iPhone with the free Pandora app which can stream exactly the music you want to hear (not to mention iheartradio and Radiolicious, which streams terrestrial stations from all over the country) over the internet and into your car and pocket. Throw XM into the mix, and there is A LOT competing with terrestrial radio.

If anything, the hole created by the former B97 could open the possibility of playing the more Rhythmic CHR to snatch up listeners like you who miss Timbo and Luda. I got the impression that Z107 was always trying to create their own niche right in between Kiss and B97. But again, the younger crowds have iPhones which opens up a lot of other options.
Until your at that point when you can see how radio works from not just a programming and listening point, and you see how it has to work as a viable business, hold out on the Z.
I understand your frustration, that radio is not as magical as it's often portrayed. It is a business. So it's not negativity you're receiving - it's realism.
