WAKR 1590/93.5 to Flip to Soft AC

WAKR's Soft AC

Listening to the Soft AC format Friday between 5:00pm and 6:00pm, I found it to be pleasing. A management person had said to the media that with their 107.3 Jeny station, they were going to play really good tunes that are missing at other stations. It seems they are doing the same basic thing on the Soft AC side. I heard a number of good songs I haven't heard in a long time. In fact, they played 4 songs in a row that were very ear-pleasing to me. i recall hearing "Silly Love Songs" by Paul McCartney, "Southern Nights" by Glen Campbell, and "Traces" by Dennis Yost and The Classics 4.

WAKR's talk goodbye

It was interesting how WAKR, seemingly, unceremoniously dropped their afternoon drive show. All of a sudden it was gone and it was wiped from their website. Yet, they allowed the out-going Jasen Sokol to do his last show on Friday from 10:00am - 2:00pm, and didn't drop him from their website. I heard from a friend that after Jasen's show ended at 2:00pm, they started the music (presumably after CBS radio news). I called Sokol's last show and he mentioned that he wished they would have done for others what they did for him.

It sure would be nice if there was a soft ... hits (you have to say it slowly) station in the Cleveland area.
Rubber City should do this on WNWV. It’d sure be a lot more appealing to a wider range of local advertisers than the last 2 formats. I enjoyed smooth jazz, just more difficult to sell ads on. Modern rock/AoR....very tough to find compatible advertisers...too limited.

It’s nice to have “high ratings”, but in this new internet-dominated advertising environment, radio station ratings don’t always determine ad revenue levels, it’s sad to say. It’s a very different world out there, folks. But, one thing remains: revenues and net profits are #1 to owners of stations, really any media or business.

OMG no. WAKR has for many decades been a mixture of news, interviews in morning drive, and either oldies or for a few years local talk (a couple times in the last 20 years), and pro and college sports play by play at night. For many years they also did high school football too.

Soft hits is not the 24/7 image of WAKR.

If 107.3 changes format (likely the last sensible move that’s left)...they’ll want a totally exclusive branding image and station name.

Thanks, Tim. I can't pick up WAKR so I have no idea what they are airing, but soft AC is a format that is missing in the Cleveland area and would be my suggestion for WNWV.
