WAKR 1590 off for a bit?

While driving to lunch in, generally, the noon hour, I noticed that I wasn't hearing WAKR. Seeing that I'm not in the Akron market, but can always hear the station, I left it on for awhile to hear if it would come back. After jumping in the car after lunch, I turned on 1590AM and heard their music. I share this because, maybe, I didn't hear anything, but they may have been still on-the-air.

I've noticed the AM signal off now and again over the last couple of years while the FM was still playing music. I really thought the fecal matter had hit the rotating impeller when I notice the FM was off but I guess that was the day they were installing their new, improved antenna. Another thing I've noticed is that it appears they have dropped TOH CBS news which is a real bummer in my book and also "America in the Morning" which they played at 5 or 5:30 AM.

I saw on WAKR's Facebook page that a new antenna was installed for 93.5 to give the translator more coverage of Akron and Summit County.

WAKR's translator is on the old channel 23 tower, while the AM site (built by the Berks) is still to the city's southeast. The translator upgrade should not have affected the AM transmissions at all.

I'm surprised they didn't drop either sooner, especially when it's now operating as a de facto FM station with an AM relay transmitter.

It could be a tech issue going on. Who knows?

Well.....listening again and the CBS TOH news was back on the station. Maybe they got some gripes? Maybe just technical problems? Haven't been up around 5-ish to hear if "America in the Morning" is back.
