WALC

First, I'm out of market.
I started listening to WALC online a few weeks ago, because my area doesn't have anything like it.
And of course, then i find out it's flipping religious, probably on Christmas day. Just my luck.
I know a lot of people complain about CC, and a lot of people claim they have small playlists, but I've actually heard a lot of really good and diverse stuff on this station; plenty of 80s and 90s with a modern alternative edge. I mean, there's no identity to the station at all, absolutely no personality, but I like that -- it means more music and less clutter and useless chatter.
And since they are owned by CC, there's got to be an almost identical carbon copy somewhere in another city. Anyone have any recommendations for another station that play the same type of stuff this station plays?

I think that WALC is copied from WHLC-FM in Highlands/Cashiers, NC. We have a translator here in Anderson, SC and it comes in loud and clear. Beauitiful music with less talk. A super radio station. I think the stream is on www.whlc.com or www.whlcfm.com. There music is great and very good folks own this station!!!!!!

Good Times, I do not think that is the kind of station he is talking about. It is alternative rock and if he is in Columbia, I would recommend 99.3 WXRY as well as 93.5 WARQ. I know that 99.3 streams and am not sure about Rock 93.5.

But WPAL is already doing Contemporary Christian. Maybe they could pair up. Two stations on almost the same frequency; that's done a lot.

In fact, with those letters, they should do something call Al FM. Stunt with Paul Simon's "You Can Call Me Al" for several days and get Katey Sagal of "Married with Children" to do the station IDs. The first song should be "Love and Marriage" by Frank Sinatra.

Or WALC standing for "We All Love Christ"

Does anybody know yet when the sale will be completed? I'm assuming probably around Jan. 1 or so? They could always take over sooner under a LMA until the sale is finalized, I guess.

Thanks for the information, everyone. According to a local news website, the station will flip when the FCC aproves it, within sixty days. So this means it won't be at Christmas -- it'll be sometime in the early months of next year.

The article also said that WALC's format wouldn't be leaving -- it would be shifting to WRFQ-104.5's HD2 channel. Of course, it may very well shift eventually, but is WRFQ-104.5's HD2 station streaming online?

I am personally looking forward to having a full powered HIS Radio affiliate in the Charleston area. I like them much better than WMHK here in Columbia and really wish that we had a HIS Radio affiliate here as well.

If you listen to the station now, it sounds like a "streamed" station over the air. Does anyone know why WALC would sound like that?

Even though the transfer of ownership has not been completed, according to the FCC database, Radio Training Network, with Aloha's permission, has been granted a CP to relocate WALC's transmitter to the existing AM tower of WLTQ and raise the ERP to 25 kW. I believe WLTQ is silent at present. Any thoughts?

Looks like "The Drive" is almost over.

Looking at the logo on the website it now says The Drive 104.5 HD-2. But it looks like they are still on 100.5....so it's close - any idea of an exact time?

WALC is off the air. It probably happen at midnight. (usually when this happens one or two of Apex's stations goes off also, but they're still on and so is all the other CC stations)

Odd; look at what WALC has played since 12AM:

12:02am The Airborne Toxic Event - Sometime Around Midnight
4:46am Peaches - Boys Wanna Be Her
7:47am Daughtry - What About Now
7:57am Sugar Ray - Every Morning
8:17am Van Halen - Jump
8:29am Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved.

Doesn't look like Alternative to me

Wow what the hell happened to the playlist?

I was wondering the same thing. I got that from YES.com, and doesn't it grab whatever goes through the airwaves? That doesn't look like what they've been playing. What's going on at 104.5-2? Is regular programming going on?

While driving the James Island/West Ashley area I picked up Wheelz 100.5 (Pee Dee) and back at home in N. Chas. I am getting static.
